I looked at the same upgrade and decided it was not worth the cost, particularly as I have no need for the pencil. For me the aesthetic and performance improvements just weren't enough to justify the price of upgrading.

Honestly, if you have the money to burn, go for it. I had some extra points for using my work credit card and turned it into the iPad Pro 10.5 from an Air 2. The Air 2 was getting sluggish a bit, but overall, for consumption it was still fine. I do love the pro motion display and the added screen real estate of the 10.5. Plus I got it with a Smart Keyboard, which changed how I use this thing now. I find myself using it more as a laptop

If you have money to burn, give it to an underfunded charity. Apple executives don't need the money. Your current iPad Air 2 is a fantastic device for media consumption and you can buy a cheap generic bluetooth keyboard (listed on amazon for less than 40 dollars) if you want to type on it. If you are doing drawing creation then its worth the investment.

I upgraded to a 10.5 from an Air 2 about two months ago for two reasons. First, I wanted to be able to use the pencil and take notes on iPad during business meetings. That experience is night and day different than using a 3rd party stylus and Evernote on the 10.5 vs. Air 2. The other reason I upgraded was to get rid of a long in the tooth iPad Mini my mom has been using. Her device was in pretty rough shape. Win - win for both of us.

Are there improvements on 10.5 that you'd enjoy? Absolutely. Graphics are incredible and speed is noticeable, but as others have said Air 2 is a fantastic and a very capable device. Especially for the needs you've noted. Go to an Apple store or electronics store and see the differences first hand. Think it through and make a decision. The good news is either way you can't make a bad choice.

I bought an iPad Pro 10.5 a week ago and took it back. Was complete overkill for my needs. I love my Air 2 I really can’t think of anything they can do that can entice me to upgrade from it. I even prefer the 9.7 screen.

Also my usage is similar to yours. YouTube, web browsing, now tv etc. Now don’t get me wrong I think if you’re using your iPad for more than this like work for example the pro would be amazing and for some people it would be a worthy upgrade but for me personally, felt like a waste of money.

I’m a pre-nursing student and I upgraded from the original iPad Air, to the 10.5” iPad Pro and it is a huge upgrade. Definitely worth it, in my opinion. I no longer bring my MacBook Pro with me to class.

At the end of the day, you do what you want with your money.

Definitely not. I have Air 2 and its super fast for internet and youtube as you mentioned. There is zero reason for you to upgrade if that is what you do. I'm not upgrading either as i use it for internet etc. plus occassional game (hearthstone). The iPad is super fast for those so why upgrading?
In fact, if your needs won't change for this device then you will be fine for few more years. Just keep it and save the money for something you do actually need later. And if you invest it in something then that money can even grow = win win :)

I felt like it was a significant upgrade from my Air 2 I have had since launch day. I keep my iPad a few years, so I had no problem going with the Pro, even though right now for my purposes it is overkill.

Wow lots of great, well thought out answers.

I guess the main thing for me is the Four speakers as I use it for Media mainly.

That is a good point that I neglected to mention. Four speakers is a sweet feature that I appreciate for watching videos and gaming, but not a deal breaker. You could use earbuds of some sort or add a bluetooth speaker for enhanced sound. Nice to have it in one device though.

Keep your Air 2 and your money. The display is better, but the display on the Air 2 is no slouch. I upgraded from an Air to a 10.5 and I'm still questioning whether or not it was really worth my money.

Updated from the Air 2 a few weeks ago other than a few new speakers it just does what an IPad does.

I’m afraid you won’t notice much new.

On the fence too op. iOS 11 has done a bit of a number on my battery life so I’m waiting to see if a fix is possible.

Not at all in your case, if it's a media consumption device you will be a little disappointed. It's faster, the screen is brighter and a bit bigger, but it's not really optimized for your personal needs, and if you are unsure then just wait for holiday sales or the next model.

iPad Pro is a productivity device for artists and designers on the go. The iPad Air 2 is still a beautiful device that is wieldy in just the right ways. The larger real estate and increase in weight is noticeable in my experiences with both devices. Unless you need the pen or are a student looking to replace a notebook and/or laptop I just can't see any benefits directly.

I would wait for the rumored OLED iPad refresh early next summer and upgrade to that.

The Pro is a substantial upgrade from the Air 2 (I've just replaced my Air 2) and iOS11 does not affect the battery in any way.

I bought an IPP 10.5 a few weeks ago to replace my Air 2. After a few days of more or less constant use, I took back the IPP. It was marginally faster than the Air 2, but otherwise wasn't a substantial enough improvement to justify the expense. I use a Logitech keyboard case with the Air 2 that works very well and provides great protection for the iPad in addition to the keyboard. I don't use a stylus with any of my touch screen devices. If you do, it may provide the margin for you to justify the purchase. Otherwise, the Air 2 is still useful.
