One question regarding display differences - for watching videos (movies), is the 10.5 much of an improvement over the Air 2 in terms of brightness and/or saturation? i.e., size increase aside, is there much improvement in picture quality for watching videos?

I just bought both the 10.5 Pro and regular 2017 9.7. I’m seriously questioning the need for the 10.5. I had no idea the 9.7 would be as good as it is and as much of a pleasure to use. It’s actually lighter and in some ways easier to use. No pencil requirement here either.

I would wait for the rumored OLED iPad refresh early next summer and upgrade to that.
I would not wait—if you need to upgrade now then do it and take advantage of Black Friday discounts. What the next iPad brings (OLED, Face ID, thinner bezels, wireless charging, etc) is based on speculation and someone’s wish list.

You’ll really see the benefits of an iPad Pro—and appreciate the 120 MHz Pro-Motion display and fast processor—if you’ll be using certain apps that require precision input with a stylus, like the superb Apple Pencil. Apps for handwriting, taking notes, annotating PDFs, technical drawing and illustrating, sketching and coloring, photo editing, signing documents.

And if you enjoy viewing photos and watching videos on the iPad, you’ll benefit from the larger screen of the iPad Pro 10.5, which is noticeably larger than the Air2.

But, if your use case is mostly web shopping, reading, emailing, and playing games (non graphic-intensive games), then the iPad Pro will not be a substantial upgrade.

I’ve a friend who has a basic use of the iPad. She fell in love with the Apple Pencil and she loves to color. She upgraded to the 10.5 after I suggested adult coloring book apps. She’s happy—it’s therapy for her.

I went from air1 to pro 10.5. Amaze balls.

Don’t go from your X cpu down to the 2generations old nonX A9? They are peddling off old cheap ass chips and lame ass display in the iPad 2017.

It was $550 a week or two ago at BestBuy. Not thasssst much more than the 2017 crap.

I upgraded from an iPad 3 with Retina display to iPad 10.5. The improvement in image quality is marginal and nothing like my jump from an iPhone 5S to an OLED Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

As for everything else, picture-in-picture is awesome, the bump in real estate is nice and the stereo speakers are awesome. Pull the trigger, you will not regret it.

We had (2) iPad Air 2 64gb. One WiFi and one lte/WiFi.

Also had iPad Air 64gb.

I’m constantly buying and reselling iOS devices.

So sold the 64gb iPad Air for $200 got 128gb iPad (2017) A9 back in April for my 5 year old daughter (msrp $429 for $375)

All iOS devices would have 2gb ram.

I Also just sold my iPad Air 2 WiFi 64gb for $260

So keeping the lte iPad Air 2 64gb for my 7 year old son. He had both iPad Air 2

I just got him the sams club deal iPad Pro 10.5 inch 64gb wifi for $500 on sale early this morning.

I think iPad Air 2 (2014) is like iPad 2 (2011) where it was so far ahead of its time (3 cores) and 2gb ram. It likely has one more year left in its cycle in terms of usefulness.

I have work issue iPad Pro 9.7 inch lte myself.

So my kids are sorta of spoiled.

Personally, if I had the iPad Air 2, I’d wait until next year at least. The 2 GB of RAM and the 3 core CPU really help it out in terms longevity. Though, I have to say the 10.5 is quite a beast.

Lots of sales this holiday season.

A9 2017 IPad 128gb is only $350 (Costco wholesale USA) The 32gb can be had cheaper than $300 these days brand new.

I just got the A10X 64gb WiFi iPad Pro 10.5 for $500 at Sams club.

I do agree iPad Air 2 has one good year left in its lifecycle. So 2018 would be 4 years old for many people.

Those who got 32gb iPad Air 2 last 2016 holiday season for $275 at Target and Best Buy got great bargains.

I’m just always upgrading and buying iOS devices.

Pretty scary I’ve owned every generation of iPad.

iPad sales have tanked since they peaked in 2013 cause people realize most people are doing 3 year upgrade iPad cycles. Now it’s closer to 4-5 year upgrade cycles. Except for junkies like me.

I just bought a Pro 10.5 inch on sale for $524.99 at BB to go along with my mini 4. I used to have an Air 2 before selling it away and I can say the jump from the Air 2 to the Pro 10.5 inch is insane. Its worth it. Pro-Motion and True Tone alone are worth the price of the jump IMO. The performance literally flies, there is no lag whatsoever and honestly, the 10.5 is still very nice to hold in the hands even though the 9.7 Air 2 was smaller and very lightweight. In short, I've been very happy with the upgrade.
