The textured glass is indeed better, but the pressure curve of Wacom Pro Pen 2 (let alone older models) is quite a bit worse than Apple Pencil. I've been using Wacom pens professionally for years and they simply don't compare to Apple Pencil when it comes to pressure curves or precision. Even the excellent, once industry-standard low activation force of Wacom Pro Pens is not as good as Pencil's. And the wobbly nib compared to the solid Pencil tip makes it only worse.
While Wacom pens are still great, Apple Pencil is the best stylus on the market at the moment.
BTW, while the latest MobileStudio Pro and Cintiq Pro models have textured glass, previous generation actually had matte screen protectors that offer a paper-y feel. You can get those for the iPad Pro too, I recommend Photodon MXH protectors.
A nostalgic sentiment and I respect people using real brushes and pencils, but 90% of the industry has gone digital for a reason. The advantages of going digital, in my opinion, outweigh the more natural feel of traditional tools. But, as with all tools, use whatever is best for you, it's the results that matter!![]()
hmm, im just not convinced yet. after 2 years on ipad pro and countless drawings there is just something that feels better about EMR. The new Pro pen 2 has less IAF than the apple pencil and 8000 pressure levels. a blue tooth stylus just cant compare (and i own both currently).
Myself and most of the expert users on tabletPCreview forums (many with decades of digital art experience) disagree with your opinion. I felt the apple pencil was almost as good (and in some ways better) as older EMR but the pro pen 2 really out shines Apple, IMO.
I have never experienced a wobbly pen with wacom only dead on pixel level accuracy , something i often wish my ipad had. the ipad is also very accurate, but sometimes i miss a floating cursor. I feel slightly more accurate with my pro pen 2 though. due to the nature of screen gap present on all digital drawing devices.
I also make a living as a artist, and yes when money is involved i work digital because its faster. however, it is a far less pleasurable experience. You stated the same earlier.
I tried the screen protector you speak of 1.5 years ago on the ipad pro and it did give the paper like feel, however it killed the image quality-so i took it off. No such issue on the cintiq 27 or the MSP 16. Wacom EMR does have slightly less edge accuracy. but its largely a non issue with the latest update. Im really looking forward to the 4k 32" cintiq that is due soon.
like i said, both my ipad pro's are collecting dust since the new samsung came out with pro pen (wacom emr). im probably going sell the new 12.9 as the samsung is better for my drawing and painting needs. Ill keep the 9.7 because its a nice light weight solution. the Samsung galaxy book is the best stylus experience on the light duty tablet form factor to date that i have owned. It is second only to the MSP16 and Pro pen 2 (which is not a light duty tablet at all!)
Plus there is annoying battery charging issues and gesture glitches i experience with the apple pencil. Wacom ERM just works, every time. no waiting to charge a dead pencil. i dont want another device to plug in at night, or waiting for it to sync up to blue tooth after being dead. i just want to draw.

Lisa from MobileTechReview on YouTube would definitely agree with you. She enjoys wacom EMR more than the Apple pencil for most of everything.
yes its a bit of a toss up though. the ipad is a very nice tablet that makes up for the shortcomings of the pencil. it just depends on what software people like to use.
I know she also loves her ipad . i like them also, i just really like the new samsung. its the best of both worlds for me right now.
i recommend the ipad to allot of my friends. especially those who dont have degrees in digital design. its so much more forgiving than photoshop, and the stylus experience is still grade A.
