That might be true for the bigger Surface versions but not for the Go. You can get a Go with the excellent backlit keyboard and trackpad for about half the money of the iPP 11“ with keyboard folio....

I take it with me in addition to my 12.9 iPP for the things I am not able to do with it because of the limitations Apple put on the iPads. If you are using the keyboard with trackpad or an additional mouse together with the Go it is very hard to go back to the iPad. A touchscreen together with a keyboard feels totally weird and uncomfortable...

You can get a non-pro iPad for less than the Surface Go, and yet the Surface Go is the slower of the two. It drags when trying to perform even the most basic computing tasks. Because of that lack of responsiveness, it's not good for quickly jotting down notes, or quickly doing anything. The battery life is terrible too.

The Surface Go does have an advantage though - it runs Windows. However, if you want to run Windows, it is so much better with keyboard and trackpad... so why not buy a more capable inexpensive windows laptop and get way more performance per dollar?

A few reviews confirm the speed (or lack thereof) the Go is capable of:

I agree completely with your assumptions but for me the Go is not about performance or doing traditional office work. It is about portability and having the options the iPad is not giving me when I am on the road. Back in the office I am using different systems with far better performance. But on the road the performance and tablet features of the iPad Pro combined with the versatility of the Go is a winning team for me...

If you want a tablet that can do more, go with an iPad.

If you want a cheap, low powered, laptop that you’re going to overpay for, get the surface.

Personally I’d go with the iPad Pro every time, and actually did after looking st the Surface Go.

As others have pointed out, if you want the windows experience, there are much more usable cheap laptops out there.

I can definitely see how that makes sense for you to have a very portable, yet still fairly capable Windows machine at hand for work. There are sometimes a few things the iPad can't currently do, so the inexpensive Surface Go fits the bill for you!

That is exactly the idea! If the iPad can do what I (also maybe also other somber pro‘s) need I can live we the iPad alone. But that might be not so easy because many pro tools for system administrators are not even available under MacOS...
