sup . i really want the sweet 2021 models but the price kinda hurts

the main things i consider are : better battery,as 2020's battery seems to be better

but also,a12z single core kinda "sucks".and the new mini led display looks fantastic, even more so in dim conditions . and m1 has stage manager, and support for external display etc etc...

all i wanna do is annotate pdf, take notes, edit pics.if i had the mini led i'd watch movies on it,but the 2020 is only typical ips .

is it worth for the price or would i be better off adding 450/500 bucks for the m1 ?

EDIT: forgot to add i'm a student so i could get student discount and wait for back2school ,but the +450/500 was factorizing it already

You seem to be gravitated towards the M1 model, I suggest going for that if you have the budget.

Even if you can't get the M1, the A12Z iPP is still more than good enough for what you do. I have the 2018 iPP and I do the same thing as you're doing (taking notes, pdf, light video and photo editing) and it does the job well. You'll only miss Stage Manager and proper external display support but it's not a big deal if you're not doing anything demanding on it.

This really depends on your budget.

Frankly, given my allowance back when I was a student in a third world country, even the regular iPad would've been out of the question. I needed a PC but I couldn't have afforded both PC and iPad back then.

Now that I'm gainfully employed, I chose to go for the 2021 iPad Pro (last year when it was released). I was upgrading from the 2017 iPad Pro and the improvements (particularly RAM) from 2017 to 2021 was more significant than from 2017 to 2018/2020.

i think im gonna get the base ipad 9 for 440 bucks with pencil lol, because as soon as i enter pro territory i feel like it'd be better to spend a little extra to get the 12.9,then a little more to get the m1 with mini led..goes to no end

although 440 bucks for the ipad 9 feels kinda expensive lol,and perhaps may i be better off buying a 2018 11" ipad pro for 520...idk !! i hate choices ,i can't make any

You're being very adult about this, good for you.

I think that 2020 will be fine with the understanding that it will have one year less of OS updates and just like not getting Stage Manager, there will probably be a few other M1-specific features it wont get even if it gets the rest of the OS.

The 2020 13" iPP has the same Mini-LED as the M1 13".

The A12Z is a powerful chip that handles everything well, and $760 is good deal for everything you're getting. Does that 450/500 to upgrade to the M1 also include $150 for the case and pencil? Which size SSD are you getting? is it the Wifi or cellular version? The 2020 iPad has 6GB RAM while the base iPad has 4GB RAM.

Remember you still need to get a case and Pencil for the base iPad, which is an excellent iPad BTW. Also remember that the Pencil 1 charges differently with the base iPad. You connect it to a cable you your can plug it directly into the lightning port, which some people don't like, as opposed to it just snapping to the side like the later Pencil 2.

thanks :) perhaps am I being too adult tho,not allowing myself to enjoy the little things...and making all my purchases have sense ,as in,too much.i dunno

yeah have to see in the future what else you'd miss ,for example on such a big screen i feel like missing display scaling is a pity (and it's a shame apple limits it to m1 tbh)

you mean to say the 2020 ipp has the same ips/led as the m1? cuz the m1 has no mini led ,just regular ips

hmm well lemme sum the choices up again(assuming the seller still wants me lol !)

ipad 9th gen with pencil 64gb 440euros
ipad pro 11" 2018 64gb with pencil 2 ,520 euros (but no bill)
ipad 12.9 128gb 2020 128gb ,with pencil 2 and smart folio 760 euros (with bill)
ipad pro 2021 m1 128gb with apple pencil 2, 1179 euros .have to buy the smart folio .but i also get 20% discount on apple care plus which feels necessary for such a device . so effective cost is 1306,plus 50 at least for smart folio... plus the fact that since i have the choice i'd feel the need to spend 100 euros more to get 256gb .as u can see it goes to no end .

First decide on the amount of storage you want because it does no good to get a nicer iPad, or thinking you got a great deal, if it is always going to feel cramped.

No kidding. Apple is the master at making incremental upgrades seem affordable. 🤣

no they dont !! only the 14 and 16 do . i'm 100% sure of that

hmm idk think 64 is a bit limited,128 is doable and 256 is best probably

but then again you don't have the same expectations and use and storage requirements for any device,it depends upon the pay you price ..sorry the price you pay i mean .i don't modify it cuz i find it funny that way .anyway

ikr ! u go for a 400 device all the way to 1500 lol ,this is insane

Then you should not be considering any 64GB iPad and start with the 256GB iPad 9.

np bud i didn't mean to say you're wrong or anything ,just wouldnt want you to buy a mbp 13 thinking you'd get mini led hahaha

errr yes but again if i buy the lowest cheapest i can find,i'd use it less and be more gentle on storage ,only loading pdf and very few pics, and no much else

it sucks i never really manage to quote people proprerly which leads me to write such messy answers lol,but what is ching ching referring to ?

Seems like a good deal and should be more than powerful enough for your needs. Bet you'll watch movies on it despite not being Mini LED.
i hope i won't tbh ,i'd rather focus on studies

and i'm still very doubtful,as good of a deal as it may be,i don't feel safe traveling to school with such a big ipad in my bag, without ac+...hell ,maybe i'll end up getting a base ipad 9 in the end lol

What about a third party warranty like square trade. Your existing insurance may cover theft. Check into things like that.

looked a bit into it and not worth it sadly.i dont have home insurance either

but,but ,the dude accepts to lower the price to 710 ,with case and pencil .hmmm

im tempted but it also makes me think that if he accepts to lower it this much it means that he doesnt find any buyer right ? so in case 12.9 is too big,or if i wanna return it or whatever ,i wont be able to sell it back ! lol

on the other hand,710euros for a 12.9 2020 versus 460 for an ipad 9th gen 64gb...argh

Yes, that probably means he can't find a buyer and doesn't want to have to wait until he does; that's a good thing because you'll get it for less. Decide on two prices, one you would like to pay (don't be a jerk and offer $400 LOL), and a slightly higher one you would still be willing to pay; also be prepared for him to not go under 700. Offer the lower but be prepared to negotiate to the higher. If you also plan on using it for school, you should consider a keyboard case; maybe not the magic keyboard since you have concerns about weight, but there are a lot of nice ones out there;

You kind of need to decide if you want a 13" iPad.

That's a great deal for the Apple keyboard case and there are only a few negatives for me; no backlighting, no caps lock key, none of the dedicated Function-row controls like volume and brightness, and nothing that secures your pencil while in a bag. Regarding the pencil, there are a variety of holders which you an attach to the keyboard cases. I also like the Zagg ProKeys case without trackpad because its still small while in use, has a protective case which the keyboard magnetically attaches to, backlighting and caps-lock, and a magnetic strap which holds the pencil. It's regular bluetooth, but it auto-wakes when you position it in place.

Part of being an adult is just making a decision and committing to it.

You'll be able to sell it, but it may take a little longer to find a buyer; having to use a nice iPad until you sell it really isn't as much of a problem as you think it is. One of the benefits of haggling down the price is that when you sell it you an price it lower. When selling accessories, always assume you will only get 50% of what you paid.

Bear in mind, if you are only carrying this to school, instead of a laptop, the larger screen will be great. If you are going to be carrying this and a laptop to school, you might want the 11" iPad.

The DealLabs page says 2018 only. Like you said, it will not work with the 4th gen 2020 because of the cameras.

Everyone is far from being an adult, until they do adult things.

PS. Regarding Stage Manager, it really shines when using an external display, multitasking between really demanding apps, or wanting to display more than two apps on the the screen. If you aren't doing those things then regular SplitScreen is still a very good way to multitask. Split Screen is has been refined over many years to be good,. You can still use an external display but its a mirror of your iPad screen with black bars on either side; also remember that only Stage Manager fills and external screen, every thing else in iOS16 is still the old style method.

some ppl say it works on their 4th gen but indeed prob not worth the hassle

honestly yeah ,i'd only miss the display scaling.just hoping apple wont drop the ios support next year or sth tbh ,but i doubt they will.i dont mind such features lack but i just fear that as time passes by they may cut any feature to m1 only lol

i'm totally fine with single app you are right .and i just saw universal control works on non-m1 !
