iPad displays are made by different manufacturers, right? Maybe only one supplier‘s panels show this problem?

M2 iPad Pro 12.9 silver and no display issues on mine. Display looks identical to my previous M1 iPad Pro.

Regarding my original issue. I just came back from an Apple Store. There was only one 12.9" M2 on display, and it had the same issue as mine. But I still decided to return it. They didn't have one in stock to give me a new one, so I'll be ordering a new one, but I don't have my hopes high.

I just fired up my M1 12.9” iPad Pro before I sell it later today. I turned on dark mode, Night Shift, and True Tone and placed it directly next to my new M2 12.9” iPad Pro with the same settings enabled. Both are running iPadOS 16.1.

No issues at all on the M1 iPad. White text remains white and does not distort while scrolling. M2 has the problems I mentioned above: white text turns red while scrolling and appears distorted.

So, this appears to be a hardware issue. I’ll be taking it into the Apple Store soon.

I went to the Apple Store and got a new iPad. The new one does the same thing. It’s got to be a software issue.

Yes - in a different thread, a few of us confirmed that reverting back to 15.7 fixed the issues on the M1 iPad Pro. But that's probably not possible for the M2. It's unfortunate that many affected new buyers will just assume that's typical behavior.

I have the same red scroll issue on my new m2 iPad Pro. Always in appears in dark mode. If I turn on reference mode calibration it disappears. I did not notice it until I upgraded to 16.1. This appears to be a software issue.

My son only had this problem after restoring his new M2 iPad from his older one. He tried it out if the box and set it up as a new iPad and did not have the issue. Definitely sounds like a software flaw.

Hi all,

Got my new iPad Pro 12.9” M2 today and it seem like the display has an issue.

While using the iPad, I can see a sort of dotted pattern on the screen, as if it’s dirt. For example if I go to apples website, with the white background, it’s almost as if the white background has a bit of texture, but when I scroll the webpage up and down, the pattern stays fixed. Which tells me it’s an issue with the screen. It’s almost like it has a film on it and that film has some sort of dirty pattern.

Is anyone experiencing the same?!?

Much appreciated.

Same. I'm also seeing some pink tint on those parts, and they take up a decent amount of the screen.

I returned it already, but basically a decently sized vertical line in the middle of the screen and the left side of the screen were pretty noticeably pink on white and grey backgrounds. It was really annoying.

I considered getting another one to see if they were all like this, but ultimately the 12.9" was a bit cumbersome for me and I've decided to stick with my 11" Pro. My 14" MacBook Pro (with mini LED) doesn't have anything like this issue.

I was getting that too, seemingly only in night and dark mode. I found it odd. And something that doesn't happen in the slightest on my mini LED 14" MacBook Pro.
This issue was particularly noticeable on this site when I had it set to the dark option. I turned that back to the light option and there was no issue. I now use an app, Noir, with the background set to gray and that also minimizes or gets rid of the issue on this site completely. The issue as you mention is practically eliminated if dark mode and night shift are disabled which may be my work around until this is addressed. Anything that uses white text on a black background, even if night shift is off, exhibits the issue. I also have the M2 iPad Pro.

Interesting. Was this a 12.9" M2 model? I don't really want to reset my iPad and set it up as "new," but I will if it solves this problem.

This is what I mean. Can you guys tell when I scroll up and down, that there’s a very faint pattern that never moves?!? That’s what I mean. I hope the video compression won’t make it hard to see:

That is likely in the middle area of the screen and that’s from heat and the display ripples a little bit. I’ve had several of the M2 iPads come to my house, and I can say the quality against the M1 series is noticeably worse. The processor works really well, but the screens and quality of assembly are not quite as good as last year’s. All of the pros have that dark spot when scrolling after heavy processing where it gets hot after cools down that will go away. If it’s not doing that then that is most definitely a display issue, but I’ve had iPads on the end to arrive with scratched screens underneath the glass on three of them, which you can see in the sunlight , and several with rattling power buttons, and some with purpleish or pinkish colored screens when they should be white

Definitely not what I would consider a pro device
