I've had 2 x 11" 2018 and 2021, also 2021 12.9", sure 12.9 is a bit better screen wise mainly for watching HDR, blacks etc, but it's not $700AUD better than I paid for my 2021 11", I sold the 12.9 after 1 year and luckily got back $1400 only dropped $200, now the same 12.9" 256gb is $2079 far out, unless you absolutely need the bigger screen for drawing or something it's a ripoff imo
My 65" Sony TV was only $1900 lol
Weird Sony TV comparison. iPad Pro is a magical piece of glass that does EVERYTHING. The other is just a TV..lol

doesn't do ANYTHING different than a iPhone
Not sure what this means? Tell that to the sketch artists. What Apple Pencil can be used on an iPhone?
What about those who use an iPad as a control surface or remote with their Recording application/DAW?
There are apps that are iPad specific too.

The form factor and size of the display is what changes how an iPad is used or how it's utilized.
Not to mention, certain applications aren't even appropriate for an iPhone that are best suited for an iPad.

I was in the Apple store today and tried both side by side. Whether it was photos, videos, Safari, Youtube or the home screen, everything looked equally good on both. Only HDR videos were a little better on the 12.9. But it was also almost imperceptible. In no way is it a wow effect in any form. Of course, it could also have something to do with the fact that the light is very bright in the stores.

Are you just imagining that the 12.9 has a better screen?
It certainly doesn't, at least in bright conditions.

It’s only black levels that see any benefit.

1600 nits doesn't crank up for sunlight or reading email. HDR movies and TV shows and games. Do you have an HDR TV? True blacks and high contrast. That is what the 12.9 screen gets you. If you don't need that, don't get it.
is not true blacks !
how many billions and billions times people tell you that you are wrong

Well, I got my iPad Pro 2022 today and I gotta say, I’m not super happy with the screen. I’m getting some ugly scroll motion blur, especially when the Night Shift is on. Texts turn yellow when I scroll. I took a video of it so you guys can have an idea of what I’m talking about. My iPad Pro 2020 never did this even with night shift on. I might try to get a new one, but if this is what MiniLED has to offer, Im going to stick with mine 2020 iPad Pro

That is likely a problem with your individual unit, not with miniLED in general.

As I said in your dedicated thread, I see this on my 2021 12.9 Pro as well, but only since updating iPadOs to 16.1. Before that I never saw this. So it seems to be a software bug but then I‘m surprised that not many more folks see this on their iPads.

Edit: Night Shift is always off on mine.

It's got a lot of blooming but it's much, much brighter compared to the best OLEDs out there.

Quality over quantity. Don't see the obsession with looking into a spotlight. I have to turn down OLED to ~50% otherwise it's too bright. OLEDs (1, 2 and 3) outrank because they don't have the Dirty Screen Effect (DSE) of mini-LEDs (4 and 5). Phones have switched to OLED so just a matter of time until tablets get them too.

So what is your point?
a mini led is a little better 40 year-old tech
My point is clear here, those who think mini led isn't better is just a wrong statement. LCD is perfectly good and doesn't mean the ipad pro isn't great to use for all content but it won't be as good as mini led.

This is an interesting debate - and one that is always ongoing between OLED and LED based tech. I believe it was Vincent Teoh over at HDTV Test that went into a nice explanation on the benefits of LED when it comes to bright color volume … an area where OLED typically doesn’t hold up as well - typically brightness is reduced and tonemapping is used to bring brightness levels into the range of the panels best working ranges.

Personally I’m fortunate enough to own an LG OLED CX 77 that I absolutely love… in a dark room it gets very bright.

That being said, I’ve seen Sony’s latest LED master series z9K with master drive backlight…

I’d take the Sony mini-led any day of the week, it’s superb all round.

I’ve personally no issue with mini-led in iPad pro 12” … in fact I think i’d prefer that they retain mini-led until brightness levels (with consistent color volume) for color accurate workflows can be achieved on an iPad with OLED display.

Just my 0.02.

of course...LCD and micro_led are the 2 biggest tech in displays...LCD will be the past and micro-led the future...in transition in between we got Oled....but mini-led is an much improvement over an grown LCD tech , lets remember that lcd improved over decades while mini-led is still in the early stages and already in front of it in key areas.. Think about if Apple will double the dimming zones for every mini-led displays 1-2 years from now...Lets not forget how oled pixels , especially the blue ones are burned if you use 1600-2000nits too much...while mini-led is almost immune to that. Thats why professionals nowadays wants mini-led and improvement in the near future of mini-led tech until micro-led is here

You should try to watch Vincent's explanation of TV brightness and perhaps understand more on the topic:

The 12.9 iPad is actually fine for watching movies, rather spectacular for 4k HDR, I just find it blooms too much for text on black background. It never stopped me from reading though.

I picked up my new 12.9” pro today. It’s replacing a very first edition.
Got it home and migrated data from old one ok, then I started to look at settings, etc, and found the iPad is not seeing any of my 5GH WiFi networks. Tried to specify the SSID and connect that way, but couldn’t find the network.
Contacted Apple and went through resets, but no go. Have a number of other Apple products connected on 5GH network so not my home network.

Anyone else have the same issue?

Taking it back to store tomorrow.
I have found that it seems that it could be trying to connect to the 5GH bandwidth on my Netgear Nighthawk R9000 router as I now have the iPad connected to another router on the 5GH bandwidth.

Do you see a difference between 11 and 12.9 when looking at photos? I'm not talking about HDR videos, but normal photos.
