That will be about 150 SGD per drive, which is really cheap for 4 TB drives! Maybe I should consider them as my ultra-portable backup, get those multiple drive enclosure or something
The drives I'm referring to are USB 3.0 and are thicker than your average 2.5" SATA HDD (15mm instead of 9.5mm).

I don't believe you can buy the raw SATA drives or if you can, I think they cost a lot more. The WD 4TB have the USB interface soldered directly to the drive. The Seagate ones might actually be SATA inside the enclosure. I've never tried taking the Seagate apart.

I'll eventually delete comics once I've read them (they're so easy to re-download at a moments notice.)
Except when one has crappy internet right when one actually wants/needs it most. Which happens to me a lot on vacations or road trips.

Heck, even at home when there's a power outage so there's no other source of entertainment (not even the Plex server) except mobile electronics. :p

I have seen the raw HDDs for about 145 USD from Amazon but they are Seagate Barracuda

I believe those are the correct models. Was checking last year and they weren't easily available. But yeah, $100 USB3 vs $145 SATA. :p

It's a pretty no brainer that the USB3 are much more worth haha! Thanks for this, looks like my backup plans may become a bit easier now

(But I am still scared of Seagate...)

I've had drive failures from Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, Hitachi, Maxtor, etc. Any one of them can fail at any time so multiple backups/redundancy is pretty much the best thing you can do.

Hi OP,

yes, the 14 day return applies to the Pencil (and any accessories you buy with the iPP).

Some excellent advice above.

I have the 256gb WiFi 12.9" and I think I've still got almost 200gb free (some movies, not many extra apps and my art doesn't take up much space. I am constantly deleting movies and things so this is a good storage size for me. )

Your present decision sounds like a good fit for you. Whatever you go with, enjoy your iPP.
I would skip the pencil for now. Doesn't sound like you badly need it.

Get the pencil and 512gb now. The pencil helps when tapping on tiny things on the screen. Do it now! Get to the choppa!!!

----------------

Ordered today 12.9 wifi 512 + pencil....estimated delivery 9-17 August

Thank you all for your insight

PS: the choppa comment made me laugh and almost spayed my current iPad with coffe lol

I think Seagate actually has 5TB now. They're pretty inexpensive. Iirc, I paid around $110 per drive for my 4TBs during some sales last year (I use them for offsite backup to the Synology server).

Personally, I went with the 512GB model this year. I have a 256GB Pro 9.7 and it just gave me a message that I should switch iCloud Photo Library to Optimized because I was running low on storage. I have less than 20GB in the iCloud Photo Library but I do store tons of manga and comics (DRM'd comiXology stuff) locally on my device.

I do agree, the Pencil, you can always buy later. Adding local storage to the iPad, not so much. Hence, if you're unsure whether 256GB will be enough I'd opt for the bigger storage for safety.

Ordered the 12.9/512 with pencil .... :)
