To make you upgrade?

Would face ID work on the next verison of the 12.9? maybe an updated keyboard experience?

Interested to see what you are hoping when apple likely announce the next round of ipads in june.
 
The size is wrong. You can't quite reach the middle of the screen with your thumbs, you need the 10.5" to do that, but its almost small enough that you find yourself trying to do it a lot. You end up having to let go of one side of the iPad to touch the middle of the screen with that thumb. The 12.9" size should be increased to make it more intuitive to not try to use your thumbs like on the 10.5" and to make it more attractive vs a MacBook pro. I couldn't care less if it has touch ID or face ID. I don't think apple could make the magic keyboard better right now. Doubt they will add the touchbar and a high potential they will make the keys worse like they are in the 2016/2017 MacBooks.
 
I am hoping for smaller bezels and Face ID. The swipe sideways gesture along bottom of screen (to go to previous application) be brought across from iPhone X, a new higher quality smart keyboard (mine is fraying at the edges and is not good enough quality for Apple) with back-lit keys, a second 2x camera like on the X and Jet Black finish like used on iPhone 7 Plus (still the most stunning finish to me Apple has used).

Those would all be nice, although on the whole I love my present iPad Pro 12.9”

Finger-print proof display, slightly less bezel. Better latency and battery life. And cheaper (which will not happen, but when I upgrade it'll be when there's a sale. No way I am paying over $1k for another 12.9" iPP.)
 
I’ve just had the 12.9 since November and love it, so I’m not ready for an update. If they do something super cool, I’ll satisfy the itch by upgrading my Air2 to the 10.5.
 
I’ve had mine since Nov. 2015. I’ve yet to find a compelling reason to update, and it will probably take years for me to make a jump. The iPad Pro 12.9 was pretty future-proof then, and I’d say it is still so.
 
I want to see more power and apps come out that need the more power. If the next iPad pro supports Xcode I'd have to upgrade. It would be all over for the mac at that point. I'd keep the mac around for legacy stuff but would focus on taking projects that can be done in Xcode.
 
Just want less bezels. It feels so outdated in comparison to the 10.5 or the iPhone X!
 
I know i'm in the minority, but 3D touch. The way they do it on the iPhone is phenomenal and the added cursor feature would be incredible on the Pro. 4K (pipe dream I know), more pro apps and less bezels would be amazing too.

I have a 10.5 but the ability to run OSX while still being able to run iOS apps would really tempt me to upgrade (assuming such a thing wouldn't be available as a software upgrade to my current iPad), even if for no other reason than to have access to Terminal. I just wish Apple would stop this nonsense that tablets and laptops have to be separate devices. Yes, I want an Apple version of the Surface. That would be the perfect device for me.

I really don’t know. I don’t love FaceID on the iPhone X and enjoy TouchID on the iPad. That enough wouldn’t be a reason for me to upgrade, but the iPad Pro line is my absolute favorite from Apple. Such a defender of it and I really did find the upgrade from the 1st 12.9 to the series 2 was a significant upgrade for me. Might have been the software mostly but ProMotion is so good.

My only criticism of the current one is the bezel size and software wise, I really wish I had trackpad support or something similar for Excel/Numbers.

Also, I would invest in an updated Smart Keyboard. While I’m a big fan of the current one, I wish it was weighted more towards the front or the middle so that it’s more comfortable on the lap. I really have to be sitting back at the moment to make sure there’s no risk of the iPad falling back.

In terms of hardware I'd like a better front facing camera. At least on par with the iPhone X.
That and wireless charging.
 
Better display and color. I have both the 12.9 and 10.5 and while I use the 12.9 more because of the size, I find the color contrast and text legibility to be better on the 10.5.
 
1. Faster processor
2. Better Pencil
Better friction between Pencil and screen
Some sort of “Find my Pencil” function.

3. Improved display.
4. Lighter
5. Faster charging

I’ve had this one since November 2015. I’ll probably upgrade in 2019. This is a fantastic device, I use it all day, every day.

Most used apps:
Concepts
Safari
Keynote
PDF Expert

Plus many others that are important but I don’t use them as often.

I’d wager you lost the panel lottery on the 12.9 unless thats a gen1 12.9 you’re referring to

I DO NOT want bezeless, unlike a phone, these are hefty, and you need to hold it properly.

Notch. First we all laughed at the Essential Phone, then came the iPhone, and the legacy of joke notch continues. I really don’t care either way on phone where bezeless is important, but on iPad where bezel is important, it would be plain dumb.

Lighting. The horrid junk should never had ever existed in the first place.. kill it off and admit the mistake!

We won't see usb-c replacing lightning. Soon enough usb-c and lightning will be gone and replaced with wireless-only interfaces.

I think within 5 years that will be true for small mobile devices (iPhones and probably mini/standard iPad) which don’t need video I/O and high data bandwidth and power. iPad pros are much more questionable. It depends on how much wireless tech improves (especially power) and how much Apple wants iPads to compete with traditional laptops—because I don’t see wired ports being able to leave traditional laptops for the foreseeable future.

I have thousands of dollars in usb equipment, might be keeping my 2015 MacBook for a decade as new equipment replaces the usb stuff. We are starting to see standalone wifi equipment that interacts with apps over wifi. In these modern devices the mobile apps are primary and pc apps are more of an afterthought. Soon we will see this stuff come out without pc support at all. Bigger tablets will come out and begin to replace PCs all together.
 
Am I the only one who hates the small bezels? I do. In fact, I'm thinking of grabbing a current gen model before the bezels get smaller. I personally want someplace to put my thumbs!

Bezels are good.

Right now there would need to be something game changing to make me upgrade from my 12.9 Pro 2nd gen. Slightly smaller bezels or USB-C is not it. Any notch bollocks makes me hang onto my current one even tighter.

There's a lot they could do to make it better softwarewise. Mouse support, making it mandatory for everything but games to support split screen would be good starting points.

I don’t think touch tablets are going to replace traditional k+m laptops. The two form factors are very different with different strengths and weaknesses. I think they’ll both exist side by side for a long time. If anything will replace either, I think it will be AR.
