One good thing about being on the wrong side of an upgrade cycle nowadays is that these iPad updates are barely any different than the previous 2 generations.

For me, I sold my 12.9 and had to use a Pro9.7 and it didnt change my workflow one bit because iPadOS works the same on pretty much any iPad out there. So, while I'm sure A14X will be a great processor, there's zero rumors about Apple actually making any Pro software that will take advantage of more power so I really doubt Gen5 will be able to do something that a Pro11 (2018) or Air 4 can't do.
That's how I see it. I have no problem with people wanting the latest and greatest. But me myself and I? I got a 2020 iPad Pro 11' this year and I wouldn't feel bad if Apple released a beautiful iPad Pro A14X next month. And no problem with those who would feel silly. I'm glad everyone isn't like me. This world would be one hell of a boring place if they were.

Not like I'm not skirting on the latest and greatest myself.... lol.

@BigMcGuire, while I definitely agree with that, similar to @BlackJacques, for me it's not feeling that the old device suddenly won't work (and I agree some ppl post with that sort of energy). It's that if you buy from Apple, you're buying (at full price!) something that has older technology (understanding full-well it may still work fine and totally meet your needs), and if a new one comes out just a few months later, the feeling you get that you could've maximized your dollars better in hindsight.

If you play the mental exercise of imagining you buy the 2020 iPP now, at full price, and the new 2021's come out a few weeks later (and while we speculate that maybe it's not a huge upgrade, we don't know what we don't know!), I know I for one would feel a bit silly. The magnitude of that feeling is subjective, and differs among people of course, but to me I know I would feel like I didn't maximize value.
Agreed. If I can buy the 2020 iPad Pro at, say 15+% discount, I might feel differently. I mean, the iPad 8 only has the non-X/Z A12 but I'm not worried at all for its longevity. Value-wise though, I think the 8th gen is a very good device for the price and it's something I wouldn't hesitate buying even at full MSRP.

I'd pay the asking price for Apple Certified Refurb 2018 iPad Pros ($1149 11" and $1299 12.9") but sadly, COVID seems to have killed stock for refurb iPads. Paying full $1449 or $1649 price for essentially 3 year old tech though? No thanks.

Normally, we would have seen discounts on last year's models already. Alas, that doesn't appear to be happening with the current situation.

My hesitation on buying now is long-term use. Waiting a month or two to get a newer device that might last 2 years longer is a good trade. It's all guesswork now though.

Honestly, as I’d said with the PS5, I wish they’d just let me throw my money down now, and it shows up whenever it shows up. I hate the waiting to preorder.

Im really hoping for March. That’s what the signs are pointing towards. If it ends up being fall, I might be Buying a MacBook next month.
