I received my amFilm tempered glass screen protector for the 9.7" iPad Pro today!
I just finished installing it, and I'm currently typing away on my new iPad Pro with the screen protector on. The first thing I noticed was how far the product goes to ensure that your screen is as clean as it can be before application. Remember that the goal with any product like this is to achieve maximum adhesion, which works best on a perfectly I clean surface.
The hardest part about using any screen protector is the application process. I've found for protectors like this, the best way to go is to use a steamy bathroom with the hot water in the shower running. This takes care of most ambient dust particles. The product includes 2 wipes (wet first, then dry!) to wipe away any smudges or contamination on the iPad's screen... I like to do this with the device on and with an app running with a white background which will make any dust particles visible... The product also includes a set of stickers to help stick away any remaining dust particles.
Like most screen protectors, there's a film to remove on the sticky side of the protector... Unfortunately this creates a static cling effect.... Luckily, the steamy bathroom only allowed one measly fleck of dust to stick to the back of the screen protector before I applied it. It's also not visible with the screen on. So no problem there!
As for the quality of the protector... It has excellent clarity and FEELS like it belongs on the iPad. I have the Apple silicone case for this device and it fits perfectly on all edges of the display.
Although the edges are rounded, I do wish that the radius of the edge was a bit wider. It has an immediate noticeable thickness when using the home button, but it's not intrusive and I'm sure I'll forget about it in a day.
The 9.7" iPad Pro has a low reflectivity display, but this effect is lessened when using the screen protector, which is expected. It's still not as bad as my old iPad 2 display, so this is still a plus for my use case!
Now onto what I was REALLY interested in-- the PENCIL!
Without the screen protector, using the Pencil on the 9.7" iPad Pro is exactly the same as the 12.9" version. Smooth lines, quick strokes do not affect the accuracy, and there is a small "tap tap tap" as the tip hits the glass.
WITH the screen protector, it functions NEARLY identically to the bare display. Every stroke, dot, and scribble was captured. The only difference I'm detecting has to do with the pressure curves. There is a small cliff from medium pressure to hard pressure. It won't affect my usage of the device, but it may hinder more professional artists. Depending on the software used, however, you may be able to tweak the curve to your liking.
I included the doodle I made with the screen protector on.
Regardless, it's a great screen protector! I appreciate TechMatte's graciousness in providing one for all of us to check out. Thank you MacRumors and thank you TechMatte!
