I bought Notability for Mac and tried it today. Really?! It's virtually identical to Notes, not nearly worth it imo. Lucky I didn't commit to the iOS version as well.

"Have used" - so you switched to some other?

Yes, I have used several note apps.
I always typed my notes. Over a year ago I switched to Noteshelf, for handwritten notes. Although I liked the handwriting I missed the possibility to search in my notes. I know apps like Goodnotes can do that, but my handwriting is not good enough :)
Before Noteshelf I used Notability for like 2 years and before that I had Daily notes.

After Noteshelf I tried Drafts. A good app with lots of export and integration with other apps. But it is a "pure" text app, no text formatting, no adding of pictures/attachments. It supports markup though.

I liked the ease of use of Drafts and Daily notes however and that made me try Apple Notes. I also wanted an app that runs on iPhone, iPad and iMac. I am using Apple Notes for several months now and I like it. I think the syncing has much improved. I like the search function on attachments (I take pictures of whiteboards and flipovers during meetings). It also has a fast search function for text.

Apple Notes is not perfect however:
- no palm protection for non-Apple styluses, makes writing/drawing a bit awkward (and you have to have an iPad pro to use the Apple stylus)
- drawing support is so-so (not bad but other apps have more options)

I keep an eye on Notability as for me this is the best allround app besides Apple Notes. This search for the ultimate note app is a never ending story :)

I started researching which app I would use since the major reason I bought the iPad Pro is to use it for school as my main note taking device. I quickly discovered that Notability and GoodNotes 4 where the two most popular apps and, after some more research, I honed in on these two. The problem is that I still can't decide which one I'm going to get (and I really prefer not buying both to test them out). I am probably leaning more towards Notability simply because of the audio recording option (if GoodNotes had that, I would pick it over Notability). For those of you who were between both of these apps, what made you pick one over the other?

Better question you should ask is what do you want? Are you looking for a good note taking app for pencil? Or good note taking app for keyboard?

Evernotes is not good at pencil support.

Also from what people say privacy concerns is big problem with Evernotes as everything you do with Evernotes they can see it.

Do you want all your work in the cloud? If not than stay away from Evernotes.

There are another few threads that compare the note taking apps and even provide screen shots.

I also started with Notability. I moved to ZoomNotes, which I still love, but settled on Notes Plus for every day.

The app Noteshelf and Goodnotes are not free apps.

Both apps you have to pay for.

Well Noteshelf and Goodnotes may have good pencil support they are not free apps. Both apps you have to pay for.

[doublepost=1502768973][/doublepost]The most important thing is sticking w/ the one you use. I found that bouncing around from app to app is what slows your effectiveness and productivity. I personally use notability because I do like to record the audio in the lectures.
