Oh, good. I’m upgrading my phone next year and really prefer using the same cables for both iPad and iPhone. It makes packing for travel easier.
Unless you have AirPods, or Beats X, or...

The next few years will be a bit messy as devices change over and people upgrade piecemeal.

I hope the iPhone moves to USB-C next year. Personally, I carry my MacBook Pro everywhere so I always carry a USB-C charger. It would be great if I only have to carry one charger for everything.

You can already use one charger, it’s just an extra wire you need.

Yes. They charge using Lightning so you will still need to carry the cable around. There are a bunch of accessories like that.

Gotcha, wasn't even thinking about charging them, my bad.

True, but the new design makes it easier to just pull the entire cover off for reading. If you’re worried about having the aluminum back scratched you can always throw a vinyl skin on the back of the iPad. Beats having the screen area scratched or chipped.

This is what I'll likely do most of the time. In the folio for travel, on the keyboard when typing, and pulling it out of the folio for casual use.

Don't get me wrong, its great to have options but I get the feeling we're horse trading features that we've had recently for marginal improvements elsewhere. As long as its for the overall market share though I'm fine with that though. The old design was easy to take off too, placing a skin on the back was always an option as well.

We've lost the ability to fold either smart folio design in such a way as to have anything protruding in front of the screen but we've gained some added protection (that some of us never asked for) more reliable connectivity (remains to be seen but very likely) and rigidity of the keyboard when used on the lap. I used the term marginal improvements earlier only to make the point that some of the gains might not be as important to some as others. I'm not currently in the market to replace my 2nd Gen 12.9 but when the time comes hopefully there will be more options than the current folios.
