iPad Pro is for pros

Ever since I first tried the Apple Pencil on my first iPad Pro, I was convinced that the iPad Pro can help me in my work. Not as a laptop replacement, but as an important, professional tool. Most people agree that it's the a very much "pro device" for illustrators - but now I see this and I think "see, this is what I've been saying!"

People saying it's not a pro device because it doesn't fit their workflow need to realize not everyone has the same needs and you can do amazing things on an iPad.

If you don't feel like watching the whole video - just listen to the first sentence. Really well put. Agree completely.

I saw this video today and it really sums up why I use a lot of Apple products. It fits my needs. A lot of my music and photog friends feel we got a little jaded after buying the iPad pro last year. We wished that Apple brought out the current ones first because you can connect more to them. Oh and that charging with the pencil thingy.

The iPad Pro is definitely something to use while traveling or on the go.

AGREED. It is definitely a pro device. Workflows need to change. People need to adapt. (Not everyone) - in 2008 I was editing on a MacBook with a 6x6 Wacom... could that still be my workflow?? Absolutely. Does an IPP work for the same workflow I used previously? Not exactly.

I think creatives have the best chance of adapting to using an IPP. If you are editing text documents and neck deep in spreadsheets...good luck.

For sure, professional toy, that some can do some work on and wish that they could do some more on.

Exactly, some of the work... the keyword being SOME. Thats what is being so divisive about it. It excels at doing some very specific things. But some of the things you need to do, this iPad cannot do at all, so it isn’t a device that can completely replace the PC for most people.
I love my new 12.9 but i agree that at this price, its not for everyone considering it cannot completely replace a pc.

I rarely edit photos on MacBook Pro anymore, and have high hopes that Apple brings Final Cut Pro over to this system soon. Can do quite a bit, actually most, of my workflow in Luma, however I would love an application that can use the same project files on both devices, especially when I need some of the heavy lifting that only a Mac can do (for now).

Toy maybe for you but I do almost all of my work from crew lists and call sheets to lighting diagrams etc on my iPad. And i’m not talking about $20 student film crap. I work on union commercials, feature film shoots, tv shows. Heck the last 3 shoots I was on there wasn’t a notebook or notebook computer in sight. Just lots of iPads of every size and shape

I don’t see them bringing Final Cut over but it would be nice if the iOS version of iMovie was closer to the MacOS version. Same for Photos. I mean why can’t we add keywords and manually mark faces in iOS

That’s the thing, it’s not a laptop replacement, it’s another category. I still need my laptop for CAD, but photoshopping (by way of affinity photo) is SO much faster on my iPad. I also use it on site to control my sound and lighting consoles remotely. There are tons of niche apps for different fields that are now irreplaceable. But these are apps that are never refered to in reviews because they are so specialized. But in a way, my laptop is way LESS integral in my day to day work than my iPad. That said I am a heavy vectorworks user and that will remain laptop work for the foreseeable future.

It's definitely not a laptop replacement for me, I'd much prefer hopping on my MBP or design rig to do design work or photo editing, but I can see how the IPP can be integrated in some people's workflow.

I do use it as a secondary device for some design work, but it's mostly a pro-level toy for me (couch surf, read in bed, giant flashlight...) :)
 
I just love the way he did this video and the video editing one. Shows how much you can really get done on this “toy” . I do have to ask though, what in this video COULDNT have been done with the basic 9.7 inch iPad? Same apps available for both right?

I certainly agree that the iPad supports certain pro workflows. It definitely does not support mine though. I am a team lead of Software Development team. I either need fully featured Office suite or setup environment for Java Developers - either Eclipse or InteliJ idea. I also always need second monitor as I need screen estate to do my work.

iPads are great for photos or video editing. I think you can even create your own designs. If that's your pro workflow it's great. Mine unfortunately is heavily under supported.

I still have use for my iPad. Taking notes using the pencil is awesome. Coloring with Procreate is awesome too. Annotating pdf files is cool too.

Funny how the iPad Pro is "too Pro". If you scroll down to the MacBook Pro forums, you'll see people complaining about how the MBP is "not pro anymore"

Yes, Apple really needs to bring their pro apps to the iPad. I believe Final Cut is coming, but it’s almost ridiculous it’s still not on iOS. XCode is also something that should come to the iPad.

It's not a pro device. I had to give up on iPads (got rid of the pro 10.5) because of false hopes. Bye bye any iPads until it's actually a pro device........a mess when every smart tech device I own is more pro than a iPad pro. Definitely not for so-called pros.....
