It's not a pro device. I had to give up on iPads (got rid of the pro 10.5) because of false hopes. Bye bye any iPads until it's actually a pro device........a mess when every smart tech device I own is more pro than a iPad pro.

I wonder why Apple calls it a pro? Do you you think people are fooled by the pro labelling?

Paperless student because of the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil! This is a huge leap forward for education. And for the forest!

Not this pro. Sorry.

It is however, fantastic for taking notes and reading on. I’ll occasionally edit a RAW file on it for stuff that I am going to post on the Internet.

Other than that it is a glorified iPhone with stylus support. Frankly that’s all this device is! For some people that’s fine. But I need true multimonitor support to do anything effectively.

Oh, I’m also a dev - so this machine is garbage when it comes to being used for development purposes. Cannot use this effectively for writing either when I have papers to write (doesn’t support mouse and keyboard, Word Mobile won’t let you create styles, cannot open documents side by side).

C’mon people. This is not a pro level device for most people. It is rather sad.

I’m glad that a very narrow set of people can use it as a pro device. I truly am. But they didn’t market this as iPad “Videographer edition pro”. When you market against Surface Pro, something that most Pros CAN use as a Pro device, it is really, really, really, really sad.

How do you know what “most” people need for work?

And even if it were true - it’s not meant to be a device for everyone. If it was, Apple wouldn’t sell Macs anymore.

No. A pro is just a marketing term. There are no pro devices. There are only pro people and these people use various tools. Some of them use iPads. It really is simple.

It is a pro device for those who can leverage the apps available.

It isn’t a pro device for those that cannot find apps that suit them or are unable to amend their workflow.

For me it is totally ‘pro’ and use it for many professional tasks and as a companion device to my Mac.
My studio is 100% paperless, and has been since the iPad Pro launched. Changed my life in a lot of ways and couldn’t be without it now. It is used as much in the office as home and really is my go to device for a lot of tasks now.

I do still need a Mac / pc though, and will do for a long time (for more hardcore VR modelling etc).

Pro: marketing terminology

iPad: limited mobile device

Computer: universal device, unlimited

Mac: restricting OS

Windows: unlimited OS

You obviously don’t get it, but it’s a free world, so you can stick to what you believe.
In my view windows is actually quite limited and that a computer is not a universal device. If you cannot understand that people do many different things to how you view and use a device then you have a very narrow view of the world.[/QUOTE]

Is that because you prefer Android/Samsung tablets only? (I have read many comments where you literally are against Apple almost anything), but my point being, even when others have said why they believe their iPad usage is a ‘Pro’ device, you refute that for XYZ reasons why android is better, which is fine you seemingly believe that, but I’m just pointing out that you only prefer android based off your post history.

I rarely edit photos on MacBook Pro anymore, and have high hopes that Apple brings Final Cut Pro over to this system soon. Can do quite a bit, actually most, of my workflow in Luma, however I would love an application that can use the same project files on both devices, especially when I need some of the heavy lifting that only a Mac can do (for now).

Can you drag and drop files from the Files app or such into LumaFusion now?

I’m hoping for FCP for iPad soon, I also hope LumaFusion can have a library of events like FCP, instead of having to use the Photos app.

Exactly! I wish more people in both groups would acknowledge this! It is a true pro device for some people! Accept it! It's also not for others. It just depends on the apps being available and our workflows.

It isn’t a pro device for those that cannot find apps that suit them or are unable to amend their workflow.

That is a good aspect as well. For me there is big difference between tweaking slightly my workflow and change it completely to fit a device. The first one I am willing to do. The second I am not. And I wish people on the other side to understand that not everyone wants to be forced to change their complete workflow. Especially when we are talking about office environment in a medium company. In my company iPad does not fit at all. There are no Apple printers, there are no Apple TVs and we don't use Macs. We use Windows. In a world like that the iPad does not fit and I will not be the person to change the company. I have to tweak my workflow to fit in the company way of doing things. And that usually means having laptop.

For me it is totally ‘pro’ and use it for many professional tasks and as a companion device to my Mac.

I definitely use way less paper at work once I bought my regular 2018 iPad. I bought it for that purpose (to be able to take handwritten notes during meetings) and it severs its purpose. I never bought it to replace my desktop computer or my laptop. That thought never crossed my mind honestly.

I don't work in design and video though so in that sense I can't use the iPad. I wish I had the talent but I don't. I use it to color stuff. That is obviously not pro usage (in the sense that I don't use it for work). It is a good stress reliever for me though. And it helps me to travel light. I used to carry on my coloring books plus my supplies. Now I just carry the iPad and the pencil. Definitely better.

I do still need a Mac / pc though, and will do for a long time (for more hardcore VR modelling etc).

Ah that's cool that you can do VR modelling. I had such course in university and found it interesting, but I never had the chance to get into this deeper.

Yes you can drag and drop into the project folders now. You can also use the on device folder for LumaFusion, and copy files into that for streamlined use for that application.

How is windows limited? or are you just riffing?
[doublepost=1543177407][/doublepost]Editing midi with the pencil? No thanks.

No no no. The definition of Pro device per MR forum tro... I mean ... members are:
- support mouse pointer
- traditional file system
- can download torrent (this is arguably the top reason)

/s

don't forget....

- updated often and regularly, unless you just bought your device, then Apple doesn't just hate Pro's but all customers
(see Vega)

It’s a pro device for certain people and certain tasks. Extremely capable though and will only continue to grow in this segment. I’m happy to not go back to macOS at this point as it’s overall a better experience for me. Use the best tool for the job though, who cares what tool that is or what others think of it. Just because it can’t work for you, doesn’t make it any less of a device for others.

It makes me a professional web surfer and consumer, but i still really like the experience overall

I play games only on the iPad Pro nowadays cos it is the best gaming tablet out there that supports the games I play

Now if there is only an esports team I can join for these games

1. Find what iPad can't do
2. Say iPad isn't a pro device since 1.
3. Repeat 1&2 every year

or

1. Define what a pro device needs by listing what iPad can't do
2. Proclaim iPad isn't a pro device
3. Repeat 1&2 every year

:D

They need to drop down the price for the 1 terabytes then.. how are the new iPad pros with external hard drive support ....

Likewise with me. I'm no pro user by any stretch of the imagination, but I love the overall experience with the 11". The stuff I can't do on my iPad, that is what my MacBook is for.

If your definition of Pro is using it to get professional work done, than lots of people can and do use it that way. But iOS is just so limiting that for MY uses, I have to constantly use clumsy, slow work arounds for things that I can do orders of magnitude faster on my Mac or my PC. There are also many things I just cannot do on my iPad either - here's to hoping iOS 13 has some significant improvements!

I have several large (but not professional!) video projects I am about to embark on and I will try and do it on my new 12.9 using LumaFusion. My editing needs are not super sophisticated so I think it will work. I have never used it before and I'm willing to spend the time to learn the tool so it will be interesting to see how it works out work flow wise.
