Some of Apple’s decisions frustrate us as users, but they are the first company to be worth more than two trillion US dollars. We often try to second guess their plan; they are still doing okay.

I think the biggest giveaway of the possibility of only the 12.9” getting miniLED is the iPhone 12 Pro vs Pro Max not getting the exact same camera specs....

this makes me think that the rumours about the iPad Pro 11” being LCD and 12.9” being miniLED may actually be true, maybe Apple feel that $200 just for an increased screen size isn’t enough to tip the boat in favour of the consumers buying the larger size, more people who buy the 12.9” the more profit Apple will make...

Let’s be honest the cost to Apple to produce the 11” compared to the 12.9” iPad Pro will be minimal, if at all different, yet they are charging a whopping $200 for the larger model, so if they increase the manufacturing cost for the 12.9” by a small amount by giving us a better screen, it will encourage more users to get the 12.9” and ultimately earn Apple more $$$.

I certainly do think twice about carrying my 12.9 with me everywhere away from home/office but that comes down to whether or not i'm going to use it where i'm going as opposed to it being far too large to consider taking with me. I'm pretty sure I'd make the same evaluations had 11" been the max iPad size, and I'd likely make the same choices to take it with me or not. We're all different though, so I can certainly understand if for some people the size difference between the 11" and 12.9" is a concern.

As for home use vs a laptop it obviously depends on how one is using the device at home; having the ability to detach a physical keyboard, fold the keyboard back and out of the way, or just plain not ever having one can be important to some of us. I'm much more comfortable using an iPad to reference recipes or instructions while cooking or working on a project, or having media/news streaming on it while I'm doing just about anything anywhere in the house than I would be moving a laptop around to do the same things. It's not that the laptop wouldn't work in such cases, it's just that an iPad is a more space efficient and convenient device.
I am on the same page as you and honestly, I don't know what specs and features will lure me to spend for a newer Ipad Pro model. The 2018 12.9 iPad pro has met my needs and with limited traveling and remote working not sure if I will be in the market for a newer model.
