I have not had a WiFi problem with my iPad. I have used it at a home network and office network (virtually the identical Airport hardware and passwords), tether with MyFi on my iPhone and at a hotel in Charlotte. I connect easily and do not get disconnected.

I'm so outraged that I'm buying 3 iPads of every variant (18 in total) just to find out how bad the problem is. When I find out the worst one, I will buy 10 more of those and conduct my own experiments. I'm sure my conclusion will be that this problem will seriously limit sales of the device.

84% with no problem.

Yet the problems mount I say, mount!

Well first this poll is obviously really unscientific. But don't you think a 16% failure (or flakiness) rate on something as important and established as WiFi is concerning? Do 16% of MacBooks have problems with WiFi? I doubt it.

With my home network, it asks for the wifi password about every hour. It's obviously a software issue and will be fixed with 4.1.1 relatively soon I'm sure. Btw, this is with a FIOS router and WEP security. Haven't bothered trying to change the router settings yet, since its just not that big of a deal.

Your lucky it's doing that to me every five minutes. I could deal with an hour, till there was a fix, but every five minutes has me pulling out my hair. At this rate I will go bald. :D. Have to smile I guess. I know Apple is working hard to fix this problem. But sheesh this stinks.

So...not having enough iPads available in Michigan means that Apple has a problem with iPads?

Or:

1. iPads were popular and sold out
2. Apple didn't send as many there b/c of population size
3. iPads were popular and sold out...
4. Repeat

Or,

just used an example, without writing a book on examples, but you could be right.

I'm a fan of iPad actually, but sometimes I suppose I need hold back on my thoughts in the forum in the future, as it appears to bring out some rude remarks.

Either way, I'm thick skinned and all's well.

I have now used my iPad not only with my cable Internet at home and my Sprint overdrive out and about, but also at various borders and starbucks as well as a few different hotel wifi networks and places out of town traveling. The conclusion is that it for sure depends on your connection and area that you are in.

My overdrive works fine at home, but at the airport, it was freaking out and dropping the signal every 5-10 minutes. I assume due to all the interference in an airport. Had to keep logging back on. The connection I had at the hard rock hotel in San Diego was decent but slow and dropped several times. Here in San Francisco now and it's working brilliantly at my hotel and at Borders. So it really all depends on your location and connection.

So it was you who probably disputed those who complained about cracked iMac corner screens and yellow tints were just... "ah, nothing more than a fluke; move on with your life... everything's fine here". Nothing to worry about, eh?

Then Apple issues a fix for it. Way to be a xenophobe and deny any criticism of an Apple product having a possible fault as a trouble-making kook until Apple states otherwise.

Did you try with any other devices in the same locations. What you described is my experience with wifi , regardless of the device.

Coupled with the stock issues in the Pipeline (I.E. Michigan has no stock for 3 days apple or BB) and the lack of explanation at store level leads me to believe problem is becoming quite large.
FWIW, store level leads not having an explanation is entirely par-for-the-course.

When Apple launches a new product, it instructs its Genius Bar to "capture" any units that people bring back with problems. These "captured" units are flagged and instead of being sent to the depot where they're normally repaired, they're send back directly to the product engineers for further examination.

Until Apple has an "official statement" about a product issue, it says nothing, which includes saying nothing to its retail store employees, including the "store level leads".

I've only really been following Apple since the last generation PowerBook, which had Apple's first hi-res screen, and it had a horrible banding issue. There have been plenty of other product issues since that time, including numerous universities having problems with the original iPhone on its network as well. Apple will sometimes take MONTHS before it says anything "officially" about the issues, so with it being 10 days after the launch, it's definitely not surprising to have heard nothing yet.

So I wouldn't read too much into "store leads lack explanation", either in terms of iPad issues, or iPad stock availability. Neither are really any different from the original iPhone launch.

No problems to report here. I've used my ipad with 4 different networks already and have seen none if the wifi problems ppl have been reporting.
The networks I have been using are
-Home - Linksys wrt54gx srx200 router
-Friends house - Dlink router of some sort
-Vancouver International Airport
-Hyatt Regency Hotel Vancouver

I have an old linksys wrt54g v8.2 that is about 4-5 years old with no problems and a linksys wrt54g2 v1 that is 2-3 years old also no problems. Both are b/g. I haven't upgraded to N because it does not provide any benefit for me.

From reading these posts and my experience with networking/computers (do it for the military) the problem is with the iPad. How is it that people with other devices connected (macbooks, iphones, games systems etc) to those same wireless networks don't have problems but the iPad does?

I'd say the problem is with the iPad.

I'd say the problem is with the iPad.
Definitely does sound like the iPad is having problems in certain WiFi configurations. Here's hoping Apple can quickly identify the situations, figure out the root cause(s), develop/test a fix, and then get it deployed as quickly as possible. That process, with any manufacturer, seems to take time.

Biggest problem for Apple concerning their newest product, the iPad?

They can't build the suckers fast enough.

Yeah, but it's one country-- the US, where the demand is most high. True, it hasn't launched yet in other countries, so we won't know the true global demand for it, but the iPhone is only #1 in the US. Hopefully that won't be the case for the iPad. We shall see. I'd think it'd sell world around the world like the iPod Touch has.

Thread should be retitled "iPad problems appear to be overblown"

Of course, overhyping problems with Apple products accounts for the vast majority of posts on MacRumors.

Really? We don't have any idea what international demand for the iPad is? There haven't been any reports of iPads selling for well above list price in multiple nations? Guess I dreamed about all those news stories...
