Too funny. I understand that Apple did that trying to keep people from gouging others on Ebay. All he needs to do is make a new reservation on a phony account and pay cash. Or pay cash at Best Buy.
Lifetime limit? Surely they mean this model. Once the second generation comes out, it has to change.

Sounds like my store when asked when the damn things will be coming in. You would think your asking a question of national security. UMMM we don't have that information. The store nearest me has been out of stock for a week, and why all these other stores have "plenty" is beyond me.

thats hilarious haha. I'm kind of conflicted about it. it one aspect if it was me wanting to buy another one for a friend id be pissed but on the other hand Im waiting for my first one right now when there are 100s on ebay for sale so I see the reasoning behind this setup.
I thought I read a story on the tech sites last week saying there was a "lifetime limit" of 10 iPads per customer? Or did I imagine that?
I'm guessing there is no lifetime limit as such, just one that applies within x number of months of a new iPad being launched.

That's awesome. The guy in the blog seems like he had good intentions (even if he was charging "a little for gas and time"), but the bottom line is that he was reselling iPads internationally. The Apple Store were right to stop him. However, I would translate the words of the Apple employee as meaning "you'll have to find a creative workaround if you want to buy more", it's not like they banned him from that or any other Apple Store.
Just my opinion, but I think the blogger deserved what he got -he was "ripping the piss" (that's a good Irish term, lol) out of the system and this type of thing just increases the shortages of iPads.

I'm sure the "lifetime" limit will dissipate soon after the demand decreases and the launch goes international.
I wouldn't call the guy a moron. It seems as though he was genuinely trying to help his little gaming club. I don't see the problem with that. Sure, if el steve-o wanted international users to have an iPad he'd ship them over there now, but due to low stock he's made a business decision; right or wrong.
All this guy has to do is pay cash next time--and that's only if he wants to buy an iPad at the Apple store.

Kind of ridiculous that Apple puts a limit on the number you can buy from the store.
Who cares if they hoard and make a profit - Apple either should have had more available or raised the price if they were worried about it - simple S&D.

It's probably to avoid resellers sending them off to other countries. Those Hong Kong resellers made a rather big noise about doing it.

Once the iPads are in plentiful supply everywhere, I'm sure Apple will let you buy as many as you want.

If you honestly believe that then we have bigger problems to discuss.
In the $1k scenario, demand may still have been just as high, but the supply definitely would have been affected - leaving a lower number sold.
All in all, I think it's in Apple's best interest to keep the demand high and the supply low (including by limiting purchases to 2 per person) because this creates an idea of shortages, and everyone always wants want they can't have.

That's not what I was told when I got my iPad on launch day but due to the iPad's selling out extremely fast, they have a limit. Sorry. It's possible you might find a kind enough manager but doubtful. I had a very nice guy actually put my iPad on hold for me on launch day when he wasn't supposed to do that.
As soon as iPad's come in they will be out of the store within an hr or so, best time to ask when shipments usually arrive and you might get lucky getting one iPad. Will you have multiple relatives/friends with you? If so and the iPad's are in stock, get each person to buy one separately!!
