Alright all. I am about to be sick after reading some of the BS and stuff on this thread, so I figured I would offer some insight.

A few important points:

1) Everyone thinks FedEx will be delivering them, I don't see why not but technically we don't know that yet.

2) UPS and FedEx WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER stop or delay sending out vehicles for deliveries. OTHERWISE EVERY SINGLE PACKAGE FOR THAT CITY WOULD BE DELAYED! And they could never run extra trucks at a later hour, as there simply are not enough extra crew to handle that type of operation. It just isn't logical.

3) YOU WILL GET YOUR iPAD ON THE 30TH!

4) The shipping problems in Europe have NO effect on the packages that are coming to the US from China.

5) I find it highly unlikely that UPS/FedEx will ship things directly from Anchorage anywhere except Memphis first. There actually are flights from Hong Kong that go directly to Memphis, but they are less often than those to Anchorage.

And for Jobs' sake, please just DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR IPAD! Wait till it ships at least, and then get worried... right now I don't know what is going on with Apple's credit dept. and the way that they are charging / not charging things. They just are doing it the way they are doing it...

I think that speculation and rumor about something we already technically have answers for is absurd.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Sunday, and I also hope that you all can enjoy your status updates and tracking numbers when they come this week. I know I will :D

I have to say that, yes, it is frustrating in that Apple has not made overtures towards notifying us if our pre-ordered iPads are processing. But, the whole iPad thing was hyped based on so many people wanting it that they pre-ordered it to death!
Apple would be killing themselves if they delayed the deliveries past the time it went for sale in stores.
No one would pre-order anything from them. As is, the EU may need incentives to trust Apple on delivery.
Now, if they also screw the US market, they may as well use snail mail to send fliers with their new offerings.:apple:

Hey TechDude, sorry if I missed an earlier post, but are you getting a 3G iPad as well? Are you going to guide us through the tracking process like you did with the WIFI version? :D

Havent read this whole thread and I will probably regret even posting to this mess, but just wanted to add that if FedEx or UPS ever misses your day, you can call and find out what station it is being delivered from and got there in person. Twice now I have had to go down and retrieve my deliveries when they claimed they couldnt be delivered.

Yupp :D

The WiFi one was for my mom.

The 3G is mine, and is a 32GB ordered March 13th @ 11:30 PM PDT :)

When we start getting status changes I will be here to help as much as possible. I have 2 Advance Placement exams coming up, along with an SAT and prom this Saturday, but I will be here as much as I can :)

I posted in one of the other threads, so, perhaps time for a master 3G delivery issues thread? I don't want to start reading tons of these again...

1. I know we read something about FedEx doing the 3G's because of the issues with UPS for the WiFi's. I don't know the source of that fact/rumor. Anyone?

2. Some are reading 'Priority' in the Apple orders as meaning something to FedEx. Is that so? Or is 'Priority' an internal Apple designation and *not* the equivalent to whichever shipping company. (For example, Priority in most FedEx regions means 'by 10:30', 'Normal' is close of business, or 7:30 or so, for FedEx Ground.

3. And, if they are using FedEx, is it 'real' FedEx or FedEx Ground, which is, to me, a POS that FedEx bought a few years back, and is in no way equivalent to shipping something 'FedEx'. YMMV.

Let's get the facts straight before we all go nuts this week. :)

Unless Memphis was a hidden destination, all the Apple computing hardware (iMac, Mac Book Pro, Mac Boo, iPhone, etc.) I've ordered have shipped directly from Shanghai, China to Anchorage, AK to Indianapolis then here.

Others in this thread have also noted shipment paths that didn't mention Memphis as a stopping point.

Again, it's possible Memphis was a hidden destination but the info I have doesn't support a stop in Memphis.

I found out the hard way with an Airport Extreme Base Station order I recently had that FedEx Ground and FedEx Express in this area are two different locations. FedEx Ground, office in a different town, only delivers in this area Tuesday through Saturday. Fed Ex Express, headquartered here, operates Mon-Sat and is far more efficient.

Again, YMMV.

Federal Express Express? :) Yes, their 'normal' service is called 'Express', generally. I just think their marketing people were asleep on that one.

No, so when you *really* want FedEx, you order 'Express'. Other times you order FedEx Ground...

Really, you choose FedEx Same Day, FedEx 2Day. FedEx Express is a catchall for 'Not FedEx Ground'. Which is good enough for me. :)

All that is more than you wanted to know, of course.

FedEx ground and FedEx Express are the same. FedEx Home is like a sub-category of ground that delivers to residential areas Tues. through Sat. Also, I believe FedEx Home is a independently contracted service.

BTW, who said these were going FedEx? I thought UPS did a good job delivering the WiFis, especially to areas that don't normally have saturday deliveries.

Yea, but that is for things that aren't being shipped in bulk...

When companies send things (Whether it be UPS WorldShip or FedEx International) they are sent in large shipping containers, all containing the same devices with a consolidated manifest for easy customs clearance.

(Just like the WiFi's did) they will ship to Memphis (Or Louisville if UPS) and then be broken down, each individual package entering the WorldShip sorting process as its own entity, ultimately to be sorted to a ramp, where it will board a flight to your local distribution city.

Yes, MBP's, iMacs, Apple TVs etc. most likely all will ship individually, as they are technically different products, and Apple isn't coordinating with UPS/FedEx directly to custom tailor options and information, versus just sending the packages out the door.

So, again, I expect them to go through the major sort facilities (Memphis or Louisville.) Thats how they handle customs, and that is how they handle large orders - get 'em to the States and sort them in a facility that can handle it.

P.S. If the package EVER, EVER stepped FOOT in Memphis, it would say Memphis. It is likely depending on route and destination, that packages in the FedEx system will not go to Memphis. A majority will, but it depends on the system load and flight availability.

Heads Up on Possible Bank Problem

I don't know if anyone has already posted about this, but I have had two pre-authorizations come up on my account and then drop off. I began to be concerned as to the possibility of the "real" request for payment being turned down b/c my bank may see this as a security alert (possible fraud).

If you have had multiple pre-authorizations, you might want to call you bank like I did and tell them what is going on and to allow the authorization coming up to go through b/c it will be the "real" request for payment. I would hate to hear about anyone's order getting canceled b/c your bank refuses payment for security reasons. Just trying to be helpful. :)

I'm not trying to cause undue stress here, but my extra charger was due to arrive here in Beaumont, TX on 4/27. Currently according to FedEx tracking it is still in Memphis, TN. For some reason it has not been updated since 4/25...not sure what's up with that. Hopefully it's not stuck under the sorting belt there in Memphis. FedEx has already been to my house today for another package, but not for my Apple package.

Here are the cities it goes through for me...
