Sounds like more trouble than its worth. If tax is all you're worried about I'd just cancel the Apple Store order and order from MacMall and call it a day (they don't charge sales tax and also have free 2-day shipping). There wouldn't be that ridiculous delay like with ordering from Apple at least.

Don't you save like $25 (including the tax)?

Is that really worth the hassle?

Nope, it's not at all worth the hassle, and had I realized it'd be a hassle, I obviously wouldn't have done it. However, it wasn't my decision to buy it this way, it was our finance manager's. Yeah, I could go to the store (which doesn't have them) or order it online with my own card and then have her reimburse me, but that wasn't her preferred way of doing it. I might do it anyway...order one online, get whichever I get first, and then cancel the order for the other one.

agreed.

And just to reiterate, tax isn't what "I" was worried about for all the haters out there. ;)

Did you order from the educational store for a discount or to get it on the special (tax exempt) account? I didn't think Apple were offering educational discount on iPads, though I wish they were doing!

He stated earlier it was just tax exempt, no additional discount. Yeah I'd bet demand would have to die down drastically before they begin to offer any type of educational or EPP discounts for the ipad.

We ordered an iPad and a MBP at the same time, so we did it through the educ store for the discount on the MBP (which came today, by the way...after being ordered on 4/13. That's 3 weeks after ordering. Yeah, educ customers "are our priority.")

I remember reading somewhere that Apple was fulfilling personal orders first. Educational and business orders would ship a few weeks after. Try googling it.

A few years back, I ordered a laptop and iPod (1st gen) on an education discount (basically, got the iPod for free.) Yes, it did take a lot longer than going through regular channels. And when they arrived, they had the previous version of the OS installed. It seemed like Apple was dumping old stuff through the education channel to avoid opening the box to upgrade it. I spend a day loading software. At the time, I didn't mind.

Just an update to anybody who is still following or cares about this thread. The 32GB 3G that we ordered on Apr. 15 has shipped, however the 64GB 3G (most important because it is for me) is still processing.

Education order here too - just shipped

I wanted to commiserate with the OP. I ordered on April 22 through our university (a similar situation as the OP). After enviously watching posts by excited recipients of iPads that were ordered after mine through the Apple website, I am happy to say that mine shipped last night. It looks like, from following the "Ships by May 7th" thread, there were quite a few shipped out last night for a May 17th delivery. :)

Was size did you order, and was it a 3G?

excellent! I am a little peeved (again)...I went ahead and made an order at Macmall, planning on canceling one of the two orders when one of them shipped. I told our purchaser about this plan...and she canceled the educational order. Needless to say, my Macmall order hasn't shipped, but it sounds like had she KEPT that order, I might be getting one this week. Bummer.
