iPad sometimes forgets WiFi access point password

Hi All,

I received my iPad 3G on Friday and am loving it!

My only issue is that it seems to somewhat frequently forget my WiFi access point's password. The network strength is perfect, so I think it is different from the problems others were having.

It will prompt me to enter the password, and sometimes if I select 'cancel' it will connect on the next try. Sometimes it wont and I'll have to reenter the password. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem, mine is the 64gb 3G. Symptoms are exactly as you documented.
 
Weird, doesn't happen on mine. I go between about 3 different access points and every time it connects right up without asking. Sorry I can't help.
 
Happens to me as well. Pain in the butt because my password isn't easy to remember, LOL.

I'm on a 32gig Wifi model.

Only noticed it in my home and it's not like I'm walking around and getting out of range. Signal is still strong to where I'm sitting.
 
Can you enable WPA instead? I've not looked deeply into the issue, but I noticed similar issues while using WEP at my office. They subsided once I implemented WPA.

Crap. That means changing WAN settings on, let's see, 9 devices.

If that's a certain fix, it would be worth the hassle. But not for trial and error. Maybe another user can play with it and report back.
 
I'm having the same problem. 64gig 3G model. I hope someone comes up with a fix for it. It's a pain in the rear when it happens. I typed my password for my network into Notepad. I just copy and paste when needed.

Are you using WEP as well?
 
I use WPA2-PSK(AES), and about every 5th time, I have to re-enter the password. But when I loose connection because of the problems listed by everyone else, I never have to re-enter the password. It just forgets it I think after a while, like its a bad certificate or something lol.

What kind of devices exactly? Are we talking consumer grade, or enterprise?

Can you not test it on just one?

- wife's desktop
- wife's laptop
- wife's iphone
- my desktop
- my MBP
- my iphone
- 2 kids computers
- my ipad
- oh - and the router of course.

The problem is the loss of connectivity is sporadic. For me it happens no more than once per day, but typically at least once every two days. So I can't just reconfig the router and my ipad alone and wait for 2 days for it to maybe happen or not and leave all the other devices without internet access.

Of course, I've been meaning to switch to WPA for the obvious reasons, but I've been putting it off pretty much due to being lazy, LOL. Maybe this weekend I'll go ahead and go through the trouble. But that won't help us possibly diagnose in the meantime. :)

Thanks for trying to help though! Interested in following the rest of this discussion to see if someone can pinpoint the issue.
 
I was having the same issue until I switched my home router
to wpa. Not a single issue since and that was 2 weeks ago.
 
I had that problem on the 2nd day of owning it (3G iPad 64GB), but it went away the next day.

It was annoying to have to enter the pwd, but I kept it as a note on my iPad so I could just simply copy and paste the wireless pwd.

In my case the wifi issue might have been solved when I rebooted my router the following day.

I haven't had an issue since.

I understand. For your own benefit (aside from iPad issues), implement WPA as fast as possible. Using WEP is like locking your door from the inside while leaving the key in the lock on the outside.

That might be worth a try. Not sure why that would help though.
 
Changing from WEP to WPA will fix the problem. You may still get "connecting" messages, but it won't continuously ask for the password.

I am having the same issue. I use FiOS and I read on the Apple boards to change the channel to 11 and change from WEP to WPA. 15 minutes later it happened again.

This seems a bit silly, like others, I have a multitude of wireless devices that have never given me an issue. I think I am going to hit the Apple store and buy one of their routers. I spend too much time using this iPad to keep having this issue.
