I couldn't care less about a tiny cellphone screen. I guess i'm too old, but I still don't understand how anybody can be "into" a telephone. It's like telling me about your fancy screen on your new can opener or toaster.

Why does every mother lovin thing have to have a freaking cellphone, and camera built in anyway?

Yes the Ipad is pretty stunning. Think God it doesn't bug you with incoming calls.

Hi Craig,

yes the screen is bright with good viewing angles, movies look excellent, certain apps are nicer to use, and obviously the larger screen size makes the iPad more usable over long periods.
But, text (especially in portrait mode) looks awful in a direct comparison between the two devices.
Now I don't state this as fact, it is purely my opinion. I use an iPhone 4 everyday, I'm used to it. It would be interesting to get your opinion again once you own an iPhone 4 (if you intend to of course)
I'm sure some people have poor eyesight so wouldn't be able to notice (but will still argue no difference) but my vision is perfect.

Hi,
I of course respect your opinion and that of others here but for me the larger size of the iPad is what makes it so different to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Many have postulated that the iPad is just a big iPod Touch and this is correct in many ways but as others have pointed out, a swimming pool is just a big bath and yet they are used in very different ways. Try diving into the bath and see what happens...:p

Yes, you are right, small text can appear blurred in portrait mode sometimes but a quick pinch or double tap and the text is clearer, due to the increase in size and can be read just as easily as on the iPhone 4 I expect.

I believe that the fact that the iPad has 28% more pixels means that it can convey 28% more information on a single screen than the iPhone 4 can at a given level of clarity OR it can convey the same amount of information at a 28% higher level of clarity OR some balance between these extremes. Btw, 28% calculated as (1024x768)/(960/640) = 1.28.

By the way, I had an eye test about 6 weeks ago and was told that my eyesight was "better than 20/20" with one eye at 0.00 dioptre and the other at -0.25 dioptre. It is also relevant to mention that I spent 5 years working in an LCD repair company where I was in charge of process engineering and data collection, a large part of which involved quality testing and measurement.

As I said, I respect your opinion and since I don't currently own an iPhone 4, I appreciate that I am not in a perfect position to compare the two products but for me it comes down to physical size and absolute pixel count on the iPad being significantly better than the iPhone 4. I just can't see how the iPhone 4 can beat the iPad in this regard.

Nice to have a good debate without any flames by the way. :)

Well I personally can't wait to see what the iPhone 4's screen looks like, but for me at this moment in time no matter how good the iPhones screen is I will always prefer my ipads, and reading on the iPad isn't that bad, but still the screen is really great for movies and tv shows, I just love it :D
