The processor doesn't feel right. Everything else looks to be something Apple would do...

but still, the M2 chip is rubbing me the wrong way. For a 16" iPad, surely they'd be able to stuff an M2 Pro (or more likely M3 Pro) in there.
M2 pro needs a fan. Don’t think we will see an ipad with a fan.

On the other side even a nintendo switch has one. So u never know

I believe the OLED part. It makes sense to use this new higher-end model to be the first to have that feature.

However I would have thought that it would have the M3 though. And if it's being designed for the creative crowd then it would need at least 256 GB of storage as the base model.
If it is OLED, it's going to look terrible with a ppi of 257, unless Apple have found a way to use RGB rather than PenTile sub pixel layout.

I can see Apple engineers adopting a heat release design coming out the quad speakers. Unlike the Macbook Air, they keyboard is seperate and doesn’t have vents.

Imho the specs are overkill for most users who typically use a iPad for casual stuff

Replace OLED in the spec sheet with miniLED and it makes better sense. At least there would be one new iPad in 2023...

For normal tasks the difference wouldn't be noticeable, but for things like video editing, the M2 is already way faster than the M1 in Davinci Resolve for instance (up to twice as fast because of some additional engines).
M3 with a move to 3nm and possibly to the Arm V9 architecture could be 30% faster or more (efficiency will depend on how high Apple clocks it, M1 could be much more efficient than A12X but Apple clocked it much higher to increase power so in the end their efficiency is similar).
Personally I hope the aspect ratio is not less square than that of the 11" pro, which is wider than the 12.9, as I would be using a 16" in portrait mode too for PDFs and sheet music.
One thing is for sure, I would not expect a 16" iPad to be under $2000 (and the keyboard at $450). However I am afraid that Apple could come with a 14" first (at $1800 for instance with a keyboard at $400), pushing those of us who would love a larger iPad to buy that, and only after a year or 2 release the 16"....
Yes video export would be notably better but anything else - not really. Ray tracing, as rumored in M3, would also be a desirable feature in an Ultra. An 16 inch miniLED for 1550 usd would make sense and before you are done with all the necessary ssd upgrades, it will be over 2000 usd.

Once the iPad Ultra [Name pending] is officially announced and released. it will create a whole new demographic. The all-iPad demographic. Those who own the iPad and only the iPad for their workflow. The price between the iPad and Mac will not be a factor.

iPadOS and MacOS will ALWAYS remain separate.

With the rumors of the Ultra getting dual 6K monitor support, this will make the decisions significantly easier.

The Advantage of iPadOS vs MacOS
1. Owners do not have to worry about swap memory/SSD writes as iPads have Flash memory vs SSDs on Macs. iPads last longer.
2. iPadOS functions similar to iOS, but more desktop-esk
3. iPad supports 5G always connected.

FAKE Specs, OLED would not be 8-bit 16M Colors as Posted.

IF legit which it’s not OLED would be listed as

120hz ProMotion 1Billion colors DCI P3.

Well AFAIK, besides Intel's Optane SSDs which utilize 3D Xpoint, Flash memory is the storage medium in the SSD of a Mac, isn’t it?

And iPadOS allows for virtual memory now -> »With Virtual Memory Swap, iPad storage can be used to expand the available memory for all apps, and delivers up to 16 gigabytes of memory for the most demanding apps, helping to make multitasking absolutely seamless.«

That’s what I said about the video iPod back then.
Hey. You’re in good company. Even Steve Jobs thought the idea of a video iPod was silly. Then they did it.

People tend to be myopic. Things seem weird until theyre not

Been hearing this since the first 12.9" came out.
The iPad stands as a work tool for Pencil users (artists, reporters and so on), and as an expensive companion device (didn't want to say toy, just this time) for everybody else.
A 14"/16" will only make the first group happier and make no difference for the others.

Steve Jobs was correct. I had one and watching videos on that tiny screen was silly. Reminded me of all the tiny portable TVs like my Sony Watchman back in the 80s; at least those had novelty going for them.
