Unlike your grammar (sigh)....
No you are wrong and the original poster is spot on with his AM/FM radio analogy. T-mobile uses a different frequency for it's 3G so even if you cut down one of their SIM cards you will not be able to get their 3G service.

Verizon and Sprint use a totally different form of 3G so you can never use one of their services with a a GSM data service like the iPhone.

You, young man, are completely wrong.

um hello? that what i said. t-moblies 3g wouldn't work cause its at a different frequency and they dont use microsims. while Verizon and sprint dont use sims at all. learn to read

Dude. Tmo has a $10 unlimited plan. I'm grandfathered @ $4.99/mo.

If you're talking about the T-Zones data plan, that would probably be OK for general surfing (if you can bear EDGE) and for email. IIUC, it won't allow access to secure servers.

I think you'd have to really want to use T-Mobile and/or save $20/mo to go that route on an iPad.

So what I hear is that iPad 3G owners are stuck with the crappy AT&T 23/4G network. Who wants to go out and get a second device for broadband. Seeing how the iPhone is going to verizon, shouldn't the iPad be doing the same.
Why did Jobs ever enter into an agreement with AT&T anyways?

mbell, so it sounds like you would recommend just going wifi and using the sprint device? I saw a video on it and it look easy. and I hear 4g is much faster than 3g. is it pretty affordable?

Favorable rate plans, retain retail control, subsidies. I'm sure Verizon wasn't willing to be nearly as accommodating.

Anyway, I note that my wife's iPhone performance on 3G here is substantially better than the 1X/EVDO I get on my Verizon Blackberry Curve. I see no problem with AT&T at all for my 3G iPad (when it arrives)....in fact they would be my preference given my experience with cellular broadband so far.

I guess how good your coverage is depends where you live in the country. AT&T may be good in some places, but the general consensus is that overall verizon is much better.

FWIW, Apple approached Verizon first with the iPhone and Verizon turned them down because they wanted a bigger cut then Apple was willing to give. Thats when Apple went to AT&T.

For out and about yes. At home I use a router and run my iPad off my cable connection.

I'm not sure that's true. And generally, I think 3G is pretty much universally faster than 1X/EVDO. It is true, however, that Verizon's broadband has wider coverage across the country than AT&T. Here, in this area, AT&T is pretty much superior to Verizon in most ways.

Thanks Bell. I just found out about Sprint's $60 a month fee and contract. NOT what I'm looking for at all. I don't need any new contracts. But thanks for the advice. Enjoy!

Well the Verizon mifi is the same thing too. 2 year contract and $60 a month. You arent going to find anything cheaper if you want a device like that. The Overdrive works with 4G, the one from Verizon does not.

Sprint's mobile broadband coverage map is impressive for its lack of nationwide coverage. 4G, available in what?...10 states, barely even registers for coverage.

I'm not sure what you mean, they aren't stuck. If BoostMobile or MetroPCS uses the same technology as AT&T they can go there (I'm not sure what they use). Also, iPhone is NOT coming to Verizon, at least anytime in the near future.

Why? Because he wanted to utilize a wireless technology (GSM) used by most of the world, hence, more sales. :)
