My definition of cut and paste much be completely different than yours. I don’t even know what lasso your talking about. My reference to cut and paste is from website, ebooks, PDF’s into documents. Your above example must be something entirely different and outside my project needs. Lol
ok, question: how do you graphicallycut and paste parts of a page from a source--pdf, webpage, etc.--to a document, in ios?

I can understand the frustration - for me I find selection of things inconsistent in iOS. For example I can select and copy text from posts in these forums at will when viewing in safari but when using Tapatalk app I can’t. I realize that the application developer plays a role in this but nonetheless it is frustrating. Graphics copy and paste is a different matter, it’s not as easy as using a lasso tool in any application in windows or MacOS either.

Personally, I think this is more due to the relative screen size than anything else. Performance doesn't suffer on the Go (for me) with multiple apps, but the screen does feel tight when trying to fit two Windows applications side-by-side. This is another advantage of having applications that are specifically designed for touch / tablet vs. "full desktop" applications.

I think Microsoft missed the boat on making the Go a 4:3 ratio instead of a smaller widescreen like the larger Surface Pros. If they would have given it a smaller widescreen, MUCH smaller bezels, they could still fit a very portable machine into a smaller footprint.

This is absolutely true. Windows 10 is absolutely a "mouse first" operating system with touch being an afterthought. This has bugged me with Windows 10 because (I felt) Windows 8 was MUCH more touch friendly. The thing is, Microsoft knew this and promised Windows 10 would become more touch friendly over time and that they would put more work into "Tablet Mode", but instead I think they have actually regressed. "Tablet Mode" has always been a joke.

Having said that, Windows 10 is MUCH more touch friendly than Windows 7 or XP, but that's not saying much on a device that's meant to be touch friendly. I keep wondering what Microsoft is up to on this front, but honestly it feels like they've given up on Touch and settled for being a mouse-driven system.

Plus... the size of Windows 10 takes up over half of a 32 GB hard drive. I bought a used 32 GB 2in1 and I’m only able to install 1 or 2 programs. Right now I can’t format it because I “need more memory” to format it... wtf. I need an extra 2 GB and absolutely everything is erased.... even apps that came installed with it, so its down to bare minimum now.

Right now it’s sitting in a drawer and has all year because I don’t know how I’m going to be able to use it. 64 GB should be bare minimum with any Windows “tablet.”

What did you buy? Early Surfaces were 4gb/128 minimum. I have to say, that SP 1 kicked ass! And a very
usable wacom pen as well. Anyway--sorry for your bad experience. I think windows has gotten more resource
intensive over the last 5 years--currently takes 25 gigs and 4 gb ram.

It’s the “HP X2 DETACHABLE 10-P020NR.” It’s a cheaper Windows laptop so I didn’t want to spend much just to have access to iTunes when needed. There’s only 2 GB of RAM on top of that so gaming sucks. YouTube as well so thank goodness my iPad does everything, above and beyond, I need it to do.

Windows 8 on the PC would solve a lot of issues but it was released with Windows 10. Tried installing 8 on it but no luck.

1) grasp ipad and press buttons on sides
2) open floating full screen capture representation
3) select part of page you want with lasso
4) save with long press
5) go to target app page
6) paste with ling press

? What are you talking about.

1. Touch text with finger or in my case Pencil.

2. Expand highlight over text you want.

3. Hit copy

In other words just like a Mac except using a mouse. Which can be done with iPads 13

He's not describing text copy - he's cutting a piece out of a screen shot to paste into another app.

what about the new tab S6 HDR+ ? android OS

I abandoned my Android tablets - I have 5 in the drawer - for the iPad and I'll never go back. The h/w may be nice but the app selection is inferior to what is available for iOS and the OS updates are cut off way too soon.

Ah, never had to do that. Just text or photo.

So screenshot, crop, copy paste is not an option? Serious question.
not if you are doing it multiple times! even once it is very awkward and interrupts
work flow to grab the sides of the device, etc.

Yes, screenshot on ipad pro 12.9 is awkward using buttons.

Doing it this way makes it a lot easier. I just tried it on my phone, no grabbing buttons and no workflow interrupt.

Well, that came out backwards.

Thanks for adding new information to the discussion. I am not sure this really helps that much, but I
never even heard of assistive touch before. good post!

Makes a huge difference in the statement of having to move your grip to take screenshots. Two taps of the pen in virtually the same place and you have a screenshot. Compared to moving your grip.

Using the pencil for screenshots in iPadOS 13 is pretty easy. Just a case of dragging up from the corner.

I don’t have 13 but that’s even better. Thanks.

I've been debating getting a different tablet for some time now. I'm in need of a companion device that allows me work in multiple locations without needing to drag my laptop with me.

I had narrowed my search to the Surface Go (I hate those bezels), Surface Pro and Thinkpad X1 tablet (3rd gen). For comparison sake, I created the matrix below (I used my 10.5 iPad pro instead pricing out a new one) Thanks to incentives, I can snag a Thinkpad for 1,095 (actually its at 970 thanks to a coupon code) and that's a serious temptation.

With the advent of iPadOS, much of the short comings of the iPad has changed, I'm trying out iPadOS right now and it is buggy, but it is a definite step in the right direction.

I think I only have a couple of days to decide if I want to spend 970 on the thinkpad tablet because of the sales ending. The advantage and disadvantage of the thinkpad is the 13" size. Holding such a device in your hands gets old pretty quick. I don't see myself holding it upright in my hands like my 10.5

The keyboard on the thinkpad is better then what I can get for the iPad, so there's that. Also using the mouse and keyboard are a better user experience on the windows tablet.

Basically the iPad works better as a tablet but the windows machines work better as a traditional computer. I think iPad OS brings the iPad closer to parity but is it enough?
You echo my soul on this one. I have an OG iPad Pro 12.9" and a Surface Pro 2017 i7 256 GB. I finally gave up on the Surface Pro because the sucking at being a tablet was worse for me than the iPad Pro sucking at being a laptop. Between Parallels Access (to my Mac) and the new iPad OS, I hope to leave my Surface Pro 2017 collecting dust. We'll see...it really is a tough call with no truly right answers yet. Maybe the next version of iPad OS will get us there the rest of the way.

The iPad was already better than general consumption tablets before ipadOS. If we are talking about something like the surface pro, as a serious productivity device the surface pro is still the better traditional computer but the iPad is the better tablet. It just depends on what you want your device to do.

Exactly.

In terms of tipping the scales ipados is huge. It’s why we pulled the trigger on ipad pro’s.

Is it a computer replacement? Very subjective, it depends on what you do with your computer. I have an older mac, that works fine with ssd, but rarely fire it up. In my case it mostly does replace my mac but I like having the option.

Is it a replacement for work? Again, very subjective. It depends on what work you do.

I am retired so my requirements are far less than one that works with a computer. The mac is a great media server.

I work in healthcare so all patient information is sensitive and not something I would access on my personal computer. Like you I have a MacBook Air just for the piece of mind of having a traditional computer at home but can quite comfortably do most if not all of my computing on my iPads.

Being subjective with OS aside I prefer the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 just announced. Better screen tech imho for entertainment purposes and basically the same apps. I just like the fact it has micro SD support and that OLED goodness. I still ended up getting an iPad tho and I’m fine with that

It does look nice and I think if all you wqjt to do is watch videos then I don’t think you can go wrong with the Tab S6.

We have an iPP 12.9 lying around since the Mrs gone to a Mini 5. I personally am not an iOS user though she been telling me to use the iPP as I am a heavy notetaker/annotator.

Below is done on a Note 9 with SPen, which can also be done with an SPen-equipped tablet.
My question is: "How well does the Pencil & its accompanying functions do on an iPad?"
