iPad wireless problems

I talked to an apple rep today about the fact that my pad works fine at home but when I'm at a hotel or other hotspot my connection is terrible. It will only have one bar and crawl. They want me to reinstall the OS. I'm a little hesitant since I'm jail busted and it would require a lot work to get it back the way I want it. Anyone try reinstalling? Did it help?

I have tried this numerous times. It was one of their first answers when I called them. It didn't make any difference.

Thanks for sharing that.

According to the rep, if it doesn't fix the issue they'll give me a new iPad. Or i could wait for a fix, if there is one. Not sure what the heck I should do.

Are your router security settings WEP, WPA, or WPA2 ?

weird... 3g ipad for one month and wifi at home has worked ok,,, once or twice a day have to renew lease but then works fine... today safari will not connect, says "cant find server". have tried to renew lease, ipad says it is connected but safari nor youtube will connect. restored to new, but still no luck...
turned off autobrightness without success,,, any ideas other than returning to apple???
