Good to read that! But I noticed a loss of speed. Before around 8500 kbts. After I changed DNS around 3000 kbts... And I have optic fibre with n wifi....
It is kind a boring when I download other wifi on my iMac and of course worse over ethernet!

Did you noticed anything like that?

It's happen to me but most of the time it's fine and only happens on inbedded videos.

Hi guys,
I may have found a solution. I changed my provider DNS by statics DNS from opendns.com
Don't need to pay. Just register for a free account. I am not even sure you need an account...
Here are the DNS : 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Tell me if it works for you!!!

Dumb question: how do I do this?

This happens to me on ALL computers in the last couple months. I swear comcast thinks I'm running a pirating operation in my basement. I blame Comcast for this personally. Course they deny throttling even exists so....

I'm curious if this DNS tweak is working for others.

I have to agree with the prior statement about the iPad is defaulting to load the highest quality available. If I hook up my JB iphone via MyWi on it's 3G connection I have much faster load times and you can tell it is loading a lower quality feed of the video. No clue what the fix or bypass is but I'm guessing someone will figure this out soon enough.

I am interested in a solution also. As it is, YouTube is pretty much useless. I tried to show my wife some videos my students made. I had to click a link, put the pad down for a few minutes and do something else. VERY annoying.

Somebody earlier suggested that it wasn't a problem in Atomic. Are you saying going to the website via a browser circumvents the slow problem?

Same problem here. Tried the DNS trick but didnt work at all. I do believe that Youtube defaults to the hight quality and that is the problem.

I think apple should fix this as all my other computers run youtube flawlessly. The should either give us the choice of running the quality we want or let youtube app decide which quality according to the bandwidth we have and the buffering time.

1 in every ten youtube vids runs fine .

Hmm, I just changed it and it seems to actually buffer way faster, as in it can play any video without stopping, even HQ ones.

I was using Time Warner's DNS before, I wonder if it was giving a crappy path to Google's servers?

I was using Time Warner's DNS servers too. I switched mine to Google's public DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and have so far noticed a slight improvement. I suppose that it could be all in my head, but certainly worth a try.

I would recommend changing the dns server on the router, that way every device connected will use the new dns settings. If you use a static ip address on any device on the network you will have to manually add the dns information to that device.

All other nodes on my network works properly. I only have a problem with my iPad. I guess it would be better to change the dns server on my iPad only. Thanks for the reply though. :)

Buffering speed seems to be fine for me now that I have the AirPort Extreme, however it's the freezing which annoys me. I always have to do a hard reset.
This is my 2nd iPad 3G (16GB) and the freezing still occurs on video playback. I don't want to replace my iPad again because I'm thinking it's a hardware defect which I hope Apple will address with a firmware update or OS 4.

If your iPad is freezing (requires a hard reset) while playing a video it likely has a H/W problem which is not going to be fixed by any firmware update. If you have this problem return it promptly for a replacement.

It is unusual to get two iPads with the same problem but, despite the hassle, return it.

So do you change the DNS address on the iPad or on the Wireless router?

I changed DNS servers on the Time Capsule router. I figured since YouTube was particularly laggy on all machines on the network, this was the better option. I still have not had buffering problems since the change. From reading a few threads like this one, I'm inclined to think that the problem is specific to certain ISP's. As some have stated though, their iPad had problems while other machines on the same network did not have any such issues. So, all I can say is that the change of DNS servers worked in my particular circumstance.

Turning off auto brightness helped me

The following tip from another website helped me a lot:

Turn off auto-brightness. If it didn’t work for so many users, we wouldn’t believe it ourselves. To do this, tap Settings, then select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from the left-hand pane. Slide the auto-brightness option to off.

After I did this I watched five videos and in only one case did the buffering not stay ahead of the playback.

Previously I had tried rebooting my router and that hadn't helped.

Adjust brightness brightness upward

I wanted to note that further testing has shown it is more effective for me to adjust brightness upward. From appletoolbox.com:

Adjust brightness upward. Likewise, this issue can sometimes be resolved by simply adjusting the iPad’s brightness level upward and off the lowest setting. To do this, tap Settings, then select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from the left-hand pane. Slide the brightness bar upward, then wait 1-2 minutes and check for an improvement in signal strength.*Speculation holds that a power delivery issue associated with the screen brightness affects Wi-Fi.
