I’ve found a few things (until now) which are going to make me downgrade to 14.8

- the floating type ahead thing, it does not auto hide, and when one is using an external keyboard, then it just becomes obnoxious (or worse)
- the springboard layout on iPads, it looks as if they have decided to use the same spacing for LARGE and small icons, could be a bug, but if their quality control is that bad, then I’m afraid of what to come.
- tabs in safari …. what a piece of crap
- auto correct is trying to auto correct correct words (randomly).

(just my opinion)
Can you better explain or show a capture of the 'floating type ahead thing'? Thanks.

Is anyone else seeing inconsistent app icon spacing?

The first page spacing is the same as on iPadOS 14, but the second page spacing is way smaller. It looks pretty awful.
What about the 'pre' first page? (swipe to the right). With widgets on the left but the rest of the page empty? Or is this my setup only???

Once you add widgets it widens the icons spacing. If you take the widgets out it’s the same icon amount as ios14.

It’s actually the opposite in terms of icon amount. With the top row of widgets the spacing is the same as iPadOS 14 and the number of app icons is also the same.

When you remove the top row of widgets, the spacing gets cramped and number of app icons goes to a 5x6 grid.

I hate this absurd layout restriction.

The only thing I care about is the improved multitasking. I hope it will be good.

Totally agree with the comments about app layout - massive unused space around the apps, no edge to edge which causes apps to move to next screen that I had "perfected" in iOS 14 - really frustrated, as are the kids on their iPad's as they had spent alot of time organising and this has completely stuffed all that up.

Not sure if this is intended or not but if you have an app in slide over , let’s say music or messages…..then at some point open those same apps in full screen randomly , they disappear completely from slide over. This was not the case in prior iOS versions. Wish there was a way to pin an app in slide over and keep it there when needed. Sometimes I open messages full screen. But I always want it in slide over as well .

This is driving me nuts right now. I'm almost afraid to open certain apps (mail, music, message, etc.) in full screen just because of them disappearing from slide over.

I agree, Apple just let us choose what apps to pin in "slide over' regardless of opening them in full screen at some point.

Apple seems to be taking what people want and pissing us off for whatever reason. We all wanted widgets anywhere on iPad Home Screen and when they FINALLY do it it looks like garbage with the icon spacing. Improve multitasking while breaking it at the same time. I just don’t get what’s so hard about all of it.

Id be almost afraid for them to do a weather or calculator app for iPad at this point because they’d find a way to screw it up and make it more annoying. 🤣

I'm so glad this thread helped explain that when you remove all the widgets from a page, it fits more app icons. I was so annoyed until I removed all the widgets and got back to having a single home page that fits everything. The two useful widgets (weather & battery) I keep in the widgets-only slide-to-the-left thing.

Now if only I could get rid of the stupid App Library :( I could get back to just having a single page on my ipad.

How is the data storage management on iOS15?
the iPad always has 4-6GB of other usages
while iOSX14 system is over 6GB.

im not expecting a improvement but just something better as file management.

The new homescreen full of widgets and less icons is really awful. I'm very surprised to see that Apple has launched an official version with an Home Screen that is unaesthetic, looking graphically bad with huge left and right margins, widgets not aligned with icons and there's no option to change it back as before. I feel there’s too much empty space on the screen and my 9.8 iPad now is not space-optimized as before. I removed all the widgets in the Homepage (which l’m happy to keep as a separate layer, not replacing icons) but the way icons fill the Home screen space is ridiculous and cannot be customized it at all.

Also, I noticed in landscape mode the vertical icons distance is terribly close (Probably a bug of 15.0).

The iPadOS 15 Home Screen looks like an early beta released to the public with no quality control. If this is really the way they are designing it to be, this is the worst home interface of the history of the iPad so much so that for the first time in 6 years I've already downgraded to 14.8 hoping for Apple to at least implement an option to keep the previous non-screwed up home layout.

FYI: What a strange age we are living in! This critical but respectful comment was also posted on Apple discussion site, however apparently Apple do not like it and they have removed it as a non-constructive feedback.
