M4 iPad Pro 13inch, came from 17.7 to 18.0.1 broke my notes app, it crashes within like 20 secs of opening it tried uninstalling and reinstalling disabling and enabling icloud but nothing worked. I installed the 18.1 public beta 2 afterward, completely fixed it. what an absolute joke that the beta seems more stable than the stable build. Only thing is more heat and battery drain b/c of collecting beta info but literally beta is more stable in my experience.

Note 18.1 Public beta 2 is the same the dev 18.1 beta 5. We are expecting beta 6 likely Monday Oct 7th now that this 18.0.1 patch is out. 18.1 RC is probably Oct 14th, then Oct 21st goes public is what most of us think. :)

Then we'll see if 18.1 stable will be any better. My expectations are low NGL. Everytime I get an iPad close to launch the software just isn't on par with expectations of a stable experience. It was the same when I got the 2018 iPad pro.

I noticed the upgrade for my iPad Mini 6( cellular 256gb) while at school ( I use it for notes and generally anything I can) and decided to jump head first with it since it had already downloaded on WiFi when I was at home. The part about,”Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPad models” being fixed really encouraged me since I had had some performance issues that seemed RAM related. Apps crashing suddenly, more reloading of apps that had been recently used, and being generally sluggish were the main issues. Updated in about 5 minutes and been using it since. Seems much quicker and been holding a 5G connection where I used to have primarily LTE (it would sometimes jump to 5G for a minute before going back to LTE) prior to the update. I would recommend it for everyone. No drop in battery life either. If anything it might be a bit better.

On a separate note, this is getting ridiculous. The whole bricking fiasco, messing up other devices RAM( Presumably, correct me if that’s not what that part of the update notes means), and just generally causing headaches is unacceptable. I know they aren’t gonna be able to foresee every issue, but gosh. There’s a beta but at this point it seems like the first release of a new iPadOS/ iOS is just another beta but on a bigger scale. I think I’m gonna stop updating until the first x.x.1 release if it stays like this. I’m semi-new to the ecosystem though as I only got my own personal Apple devices over the last 1.5 years. Have updates always been this way? My family members with Apple devices since iPhone 5 seemed to not have as many issues back then.
