It’s not a separate OS, like MacOS & TVOs. There are issues that reflect on both, which would create more, unnecessary duplication, thus the prefixes instead. Just going to have to deal with it.

Well, that’s on you. You’re gonna have to deal with it, as everyone is different, and the mods have gone this route for a logical reason. Your way leads to a messier forum than it already is, creating tons of work for the mods.
My life just went from miserable hoping on a new section to desperate hanging on to the prefix system, god help us all...
It's not a hard thing to deal with........ just get used to it, and crack on
As much as I agree that Prefixes are probably to go for the moment - iPadOS is going to need to be spun into it's own section on here at some point.
Yes, it may be the same underlying code at the moment, but what's to say that this is going to be the case in the future? I think the first clue is the fact that Apple have finally split the OS's for the relative devices with iOS13.
It's also fair to assume that in future releases - iPadOS will have features that WON'T be in iOS.

It’s still mostly the same OS with the same core features though. It’s labelled as version 13 still. Until there’s a more significant difference between them, it’s not worth it for the moment. I’d say it’s still 90-95% iOS common code (admittedly that’s ball park).

All having a separate subforum for iPadOS is going to do is stop people who don't have iPads looking at and answering questions about the 95% of common functionality between the two. It actively makes the community worse for iPad users imo.
Could be a valid reason not to split it, but is it not strange that they called it Ipados and not Ipados13, does this mean that the next update will be Ipados2 ?

Seems like a decision marketing will have to make next year. Right now the code itself says iOS13, Software Update says "iOS 13.0 Your Software is up to date" and there aren't really many more distinctions between iPad and iOS this year than there were last year. Sidecar and some keyboard functionality apart, nearly all of the things that are different are iterations on things that already were.
While the added labels in the iOS subforum for iPad / iPhone is a step, it's in the wrong direction... SAD.... Hey @arn... What's the deal in ignoring iPadOS and keeping it merged with iOS?
Does MacRumors follow the industry or does it define it? I think it's about reporting on and supporting Apple. If this is the case, why is the forum so rooted in iOS rather than creating a forum for iPadOS?
If Apple is Gung-ho on creating a new OS that's unique to iPad, why does MacRumors forum ignore it and cling on to the old corporate direction??

I think we're straddling where iOS and iPadOS deserve separate discussions, but as one admin told me, the two OSs simply have too much in common at the moment.
I think you missed or misunderstood what we posted about this. From the post:
"We're considering possible adjustments to how this part of the forum is organized. In the meantime, we've set up mandatory prefixes here."
Nothing is being clung to, but this is a big site and any reorganization no matter how slight involves discussion and planning.
Well, considering there has been plenty of time for reaction, discussion and planning. What's the decision and timeline?
Of course there should now be separate forum section. My guess is the name change means different dedicated team will now work on iPad software, so as time goes on it will move further and further away from iOS for iPhone
However......we also need a way to discuss features and issues common to both OS’s without having multiple threads spread across multiple subforums.
Does it make sense to make a separate forum for iPadOS? I mean, at this point there probably are no big differences between the two, but with time I would expect them to diverge enough so that maybe iPadOS might merit its own subforum?
On another tangent, how is it that Apple wants closer integration between MacOS and iOS, and various initiatives like project Marzipan, but wouldn’t a more natural fit be MacOS and iPadOS? Simply because of screen size if nothing else. I don’t understand the road map.
