iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11pro losing 25% battery over night doing NOTHING

Hey guys
I got my 11pro two days ago and was amazed by it and looking forward to the awesome battery life. I restored from a backup from my X Via iCloud.

I had it plugged to the power almost the entire time because I wanted the photo curation to be finished. But last night I was out and noticed how it ran crazy hot in my pocket doing nothing and how the battery was surprisingly low all of a sudden.
Then I did a test over night, charged it up to 100 before bed and left it, not in airplane mode but just left it. This morning: 75% !! As I’m typing this it lost another 3%. This is worse than the performance on my girlfriends completely broken iPhone 7!

what should I do? Just return it?Or so I have to go through the trouble of factory or even DFU reset and try to set it up as new without my backup?

To test your iPhone in a Genius Bar and if there is any problem they will replace it. I haven’t any experience with Apple care, but if you have some Apple devices like an iPad for example you can save your data on iCloud and then you can transfer all the information if they gives you a new one
 
New phones will be still downloading and sorting out photos/videos/apps and all for a good few days.
Best way to check it out is to first check and see if there any apps running constantly in the background (Settings/Battery).
Once you have done this, check the battery percentage then place the phone in Airplane mode and switch off the screen for at least an hour.
Finally, after the hour check again the battery. If it has dropped more than 2% then you have an issue.

in the battery app, nothing stands out. I went through this with the apple advisor from
Apple care on the phone already. Absolutely only system apps and not a lot of bg activity.
I’m doing the airplane mode one hour test right now, 30 mins to go.
I spoke with two apple advisors on the phone, the first one suggested to do a test one day with BG refresh on, and then one day with all of them off and to see what’ll happen.
then the second advisor told me I should restore DFU and then not reload my iCloud backup. I don’t want to do this, as it’s such a hassle to install and set all the apps again manually.

if the airplane mode test comes out negative with no result at all, what would you advise?
I have a Genius Bar appointment in three hours, but I’m not sure what they can do for me or if i want to waste my Saturday afternoon..
 
If the Airplane mode test shows little to no battery change then it most certainly will be software that is draining the battery.
This could be down to a few things:-
1. The phone is still updating from being new.
2. You may have an erroneous app consuming the processor and the battery. That will be hard to pinpoint and as such you may have to delete your apps then bring them back one by one.
3. iOS 13.1.2 has been effecting a lot of devices draining the battery. Even with iOS 13.1.3 installed some users are still reporting issues. You may be one of them.

Best wait until your Airplane mode test is complete.
If it’s still draining fast and warm to hot then it’s a hardware issue.

And if it’s not warm and didn’t drain at all during airplane, would you recommend setting it up as new? Or just go to the genius appointment anyways?

Phone went cold and didn’t loose any battery during airplane mode test. What now ;)?

Well now you know you can cancel your Genius appointment as it’s not hardware.
As to what’s causing it I would give it a couple of days and see if it settles down. If it does then that proves all the phone was trying to do was update itself.
To do this quickly keep the phone plugged in as long as possible on WiFi.
Have a look at the photos app and tap on the ‘Photos’ tab (far left tab).
Look at the bottom where it lists all your photos & videos... If it has finished it will say so, if not it will tell you it is still downloading from iCloud.

Let’s go small steps at the moment...

You 100% sure it can’t be hardware?
Should I just Continue to observe or try a DFU restore?
 
Hardware or software , the very first thing Apple will ask you to do is a restore and setup as new to observe the behaviour.

Battery not draining in airplane mode is good enough indication that it’s a software issue. I suggest you do a encrypted iTunes backup and then restore the device. Setup as new and use it for a couple of days to see if the battery drainage persists. If it doesn’t drain then definitely it’s down to an app or a dodgy system process.

I went to the store and they didn’t even let me forward to the Genius Bar even though I had an appointment. There came a guy to “prepare for my appointment” and asked what was going on. When I described it to him he said he would return it and ask for a new device. They didn’t have any stock anymore when I came (annoying, in the morning they still had...) so I’ll have to try again next week...
The battery continues to drain rather rapidly. You guys sure I have to delete and restore it?

Or get the phone swapped out.

As I said previously, did you check to see if it was still adding items to the phone (the photos app)?
Once everything has been added the battery should settle down. However, if it is still running down rapidly then as Akashi.nu mentions to progress further you would need to set up the phone as a fresh device with NOTHING but the apps and data that the phone comes with.
So, make a Backup of what you have got (an iTunes one would be best as you would then be able to pick and choose which backup you wanted. However, if you cant do this then carry out an iCloud backup.
Next, setup the device as a new phone with NOTHING installed and just wait...... Give it a couple of hours and see if the phones battery has improved.
If it has you can then do one of two things:-
1. Restore the previous ITunes/iCloud Backup which would put everything back to what you have today and see if the problem comes back. If it does you would have to restore again as a new device.
2. This option is much slower but it will allow you to find out if there is a particular app effecting the battery.... Slowly add a few apps at a time and see if the battery changes.
Bear in mind the second you restore your photos from iCloud the battery will most definitely get hit whilst it downloads all photos and videos.

Whatever you do it’s not a quick fix. It could be a dodgy file or data cache effecting the phone, hence a restore as a new phone will clear out any corruption.

Hey, yea I checked the photos app, it’s loooong finished, since days actually.
The guy in the store recommended to swap the phone for a new one (return and buy new) before trying all these annoying restore as new steps etc. just because it shouldn’t be necessary to do like this with such an expensive new device and I totally agree!
 
I would try few things before taking it to the apple store. If nothing else fixes then the last resort is the Apple Store.

Definitely try DFU Restore and set it up as new and see how that goes. If it still does it then it's likely hardware issue.

If you are still within the 14 day return window, just simply do an exchange and they will get you a new one with a new AppleCare plus added.

How many signal bars do you have? That can affect battery significantly. I'd restore as new and see if it's still happening. Add only your essential apps at first and then slowly add other apps and see if that changes battery drain. The airplane battery test indicates software not hardware. Your photos & messages will sync back if you have those options turned on.
