Rumors suggest this smaller form will be for the non-Pro model, correct? I want a flagship in those dimensions, but depending on the flagship-exclusive features I might opt for the smaller one.

yes, the rumors are pointing to that. Flagship-exclusive features would be, at least, finest materials, better cameras, 120hz display. I can live with a 5,4” without those, unless the phone is bulky or with and 11 design.

Just saw this article:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12: 131 x 64 mm (5.15 x 2.51-inches)
Could anybody with good photoshop skills try to draw a sketch about what would be the frame width to host inside a 5.4in display on that body? I would like to know if we can expect similar bezel width than the Pros.. :)

Hi R,

A good find, and a good comparison in size to the old SE

Shame the 5.4 phone would not be a lot closer to the old SE. It really is just shaving off 3 MM from the new SE, width wise.
by the time it comes up, I might of got used to the current SE phone!

I suppose, moneywise, if I can get used to this new SE larger size, the plan would be to hang onto it for two years, then hand over to my mum, and buy the 5.4 phone at a discounted price then.

Regards,
Martin

If you start a thread on this, you might find a graphic designer/artist that could probably meet your expectations of you’re request. Also, I imagine as we approach closer to production starting in July, we should see more renders/CADs surfacing. But I too would like to see that formatted, as I am curious about the 5.4 inch iPhone.

So the width of the 12 will be slightly smaller/shorter than the SE? Am I the only one who doesn't like this? I feel like the SE width is nearly perfect, especially for texting with one hand.

It is all relative to the size of each person’s hand, and whether he or she wants to invoke the reachability feature regularly.

Yep.

I actually use two hands when typing. Couldn't reach the other side on 4.7" without dropping the phone. Reachability doesn't help with typing since that's just for reaching the top of the "display". I can operate the 4.7" iPhone with one hand for the most part though.

The 5.5", I couldn't even reach far enough across for slide to answer phone calls. That's the thing that really tripped me up while grocery shopping. I was already resigned to operating the iPhone 6+ with two hands but the fact that I couldn't even answer phone calls with one hand was very impractical. Placed an order for the iPhone 6 that same day.

I think I would appreciate a narrower phone again although I'm not sure how much of a difference 3mm will make.

The problem with reachability, actually falls on Apple. Can you imagine if users actually had an idea that reachability was a thing and could be assisted in managing a larger device? {Rhetorical} It probably would help with sales if users actually knew that reachability was an option, but I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anyone that was aware this was in settings. And that’s partially due to no one understands what reachability really is. But it certainly has helped me with the Plus/Max size iPhones, being they are unwieldy one-handed.

Lol, I've seen a number of users who accidentally triggered it (on 5.5" iPhone Plus) and have told me their phone was broken. :p
