I enjoy how every year, everyone wants to know about the camera, yet all everyone takes pictures of is food, nature scenes, family, babies, and other non sensical photos. Never to be looked at again, never leave the phone. Lol
I've a friend's group who went for a few hikes this year in the beautiful rocky mountains. I've my pixel 4 XL, friend has Galaxy s20 and another friend has iPhone 11 pro. After the first few hikes my pixel 4 XL has become the default device for pictures. Just regular point and shoot pictures during hike. Some of the pictures turned out stunning. Example attached. No edits direct from the phone.

Only reason i switched to Pixel even though I prefer iOS

From the few shots I’ve seen, improvements are there, but are small and not huge leaps, especially in good lighting. More noticeable improvements are only in low light.

At the end of the day, these cameras are still cell phone cameras and can’t compare to the big lens look of dedicated cameras. Just don’t expect too much and won’t be disappointed.
Agree! We have to remember this is a cell first.

I like Peter McKinnon, but all the photos he shows in the video have been edited in Lightroom. You can make any photo from any camera look awesome in post. I wish he had at least posted a link to the unedited photos.

You can’t make *any* photo look awesome in post. If the sensor doesn’t collect the data, then there’s nothing to do about it. If it can’t gather detail in shadows to push the exposure, for example, you’re not getting anything but a bunch of grain. So the fact that he can push the photos in a way he normally edits does give you some useful information about the capability of the camera.

I hear ya. Always use my iPhone. I have had a few Canon DSLR's but always come back to the phone. The Canons are just too much to lug around for casual use.

This video compares 12 Pro against Pixel 5 camera. I tend to like the pixel 5 photos better. Not sure about others.

Let me know what you guys think.

Just watched it, and I’m not being biased but the iPhone has overtaken the Pixel in the majority of this comparison shots.

Thanks for your comments

If the iPhone 12 pro camera is almost on par with Pixel 5, i may consider getting the iPhone because i prefer iOS and the build quality of iPhone.
Iphone costs twice as much though!!

If you don’t need the telephoto then the regular 12 is a lot closer to the pixel 5 price.

Got the iPhone 12 pro today to check out the camera. Let's see how it goes.

Agreed. Surprised to be honest, and makes me more excited for the 12 Pro! I would say 7-8/10 shots I preferred the iPhone.

Didn't want to start a new thread. What is the major difference between the 12 and 12 Pro camera? Obviously the Pro has the telephoto lens, but what does that mean exactly in layman's terms? I take a few photos but far from an enthusiast. Am I missing something huge with a 12?

And Apple ProRAW. But that’s about it, nobody knows how much better ProRAW will make shooting on the Pros.
