Yea, I had bought the Verizon version and just popped in my AT&T sim in there. I am just now getting to replacing that with a 12 Pro and I'm going to still order the SIM Free version and use the Apple Card for installment payments. I'm hoping to transition my physical sim to an eSIM.
Hi Brad, I am just wondering what's the difference between the Sim-free and Verizon version? If we directly purchase the device from apple website by paying in full, then the Verizon version also comes fully unlocked right. Why do people still prefer to buy the sim free version?

I want to purchase an iPhone 12 pro max, I am only getting an option to collect it from the store if i select verizon. When i select sim free- It's showing not available. So will i be missing out on anything, If i select verizon as the carrier and buy it by paying the full amount? I need the phone to be unlocked from Day 1.

Yeah the nonsense with the iPhone X. I was forced to buy the T-Mo version, SIM free wasn't released until WAY later. T-Mo was still factory unlocked but no CDMA antennas. Did I need them? No. Did I want them because I was dropping $1.2k on a phone? Hell's-to-the-F-Yeah I did

Some people, like myself, prefer to buy sim-free model as it doesn't come with a SIM card inside. For me it's just peace of mind I get when I buy it. I know that buying Verizon version full price at apple.com does come unlocked.

If the apple store is showing that it's not available for pick up, it means that they are out of stock and don't have any inventory for that particular model. But if you buy full price for the Verizon version, it will be unlocked.

I plan to send the device to India as a holiday gift for my brother and hence want to be fully sure before I place the order. I won't ever have to contact Verizon in the future regarding the device right? Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes you won't ever need to contact Verizon. If you are buying it directly from apple, it will be 100% unlocked.
