Not enough for me. I'm still good with my 8+, I've not had it all that long.

Better cameras? Don't care, 8+ takes far more than good enough pics for work documentation, which is about the only thing I use the camera for. 5G? Meh. BIG meh. 4G is plenty fast enough for a phone. Storage? 256GB is more than adequate for my phone for now. Sure, I'll want more someday, but that will be years away. 8TB on my laptop? Yes please. But not with Apple's prices, and not on my phone. No Touch ID and a stupid notch/pill? GTFO, those are bugs, not features.

Phones should easily last a decade or more, I've actually got a couple original iPhones that work fine - or would if they could still get a cell signal, but that's not Apple's fault, it's the FCC's for allowing telcos to shut down 2G.

8 TB on a computer is a disaster waiting to happen. If anyone is using 8TB on a computer, I would question the workflow and backup solutions.

Face ID is 20x more secure than Touch ID And includes facial awareness. No comparison.

But it’s a big world and we all have our own view of what we’d like amd we all have our needs and workflows.

Not really. As a coomer, I utilise all my 16TB storage on my computer at home. I can afford to lose it all and will just download it all again.

My work computer on the other hand uses 2TB, all backed to Onedrive and Google drive. But I agree, it totally depends on what you are willing to risk losing.

My 12Pro is still just fine, but the 6 Plus I use as a second phone for work is getting a bit long in the tooth lol. It'll be 9 years old this September, and the battery is down to 40% of its charge capacity. Still lasts all day for phone calls, texts, and email tho. I'll get the 15 Pro and use my 12 Pro for work. The 6 Plus has had a good run.

The list of improvements is growing but I still think I'll wait for the iPhone 16 or even 17 before replacing my 12 Pro Max.

I think the iPhone XX pro max ultra is going to be the best iPhone ever. But seriously I’m looking forward to upgrading my Xs max to an iPhone 15 pro max. Give me dynamic island, usb-c(can’t have em all), periscope camera and all that.

Ditto. Just get a new battery man. Apple might even do it for the $69 cost or whatever it is now (dont know if they still do the 6+?)

seems like a hard justification for the $1000+ cost of a new phone, but if that's what you want to do, I guess that's what you want to do.

I'll be coming from a 12 mini, and while I'm not happy about the increase in size/weight, I'm looking forward to ProMotion, USB-C, and better battery life.
I was so hoping for a 15 or 16 mini to replace my 12 Pro Max. I'm a fan of the minis but I don't think I can justify a downgrade to a 13 mini. My 12 Pro Max still has many years of life left, and I didn't plan on upgrading until the 16/17. I came to my 12 from a 7 Plus, which was actually my first phone. I don't need a new phone every other year.

I thought it was a pretty good justification lol.

The iPhone 12 Pro is still a really good phone whichever way one looks at it and its still a lot of phone for what I need it for. The biggest things to come with the 15 Pro for me have to be the USB-C port and not needing to replace an ageing battery.
Not needing to replace an ageing battery?

When you replace your car with a new one do you continue to care about the state of the tires and/or oil, insurances mechanical inspections etc on the one that you replaced? That sort of thing becomes the problem is the new owner doesn't it?

Replacing the battery in a primary phone can be quite the pain. Something you don't need to do, in the same way at least if you choose to keep the old phone, if you replace it with a new one.

Quick question on battery replacement, how do those vary in the following countries:
UK / US / Canada / Australia / Singapore / Czech Republic ?

Looking for local knowledge from those place.

Thanks.

I took my XR to the Apple Store in Birmingham (UK) last year as the battery was down to 83%. Store assistant said they would do the diagnostics - he said 83% isn't normally a concern - the battery doesn't really degrade until 500 recycles. He did some magic incantation on the iPhone on connected it to his iPad to get the diagnostic data - the battery had about 720 recharge cycles over the four years.

Assistant said it was optional if I wanted it replaced. I unlocked/removed pin etc so they could do the repair.

Left and got a cup of coffee, visited a book store (what do you do without a phone?! 😂) - went back just over an hour later, showed some ID to get the phone back. New battery done, also speaker was replaced (apparently that often gets replaced as it's in the way of replacing the battery).

Overall it's pretty slick and pain free. New battery has had the optimised charging of course (wasn't a feature when the XR came out).... just checked now - 100% capacity.

Overall if you do feel you're struggling some days, I'd say it's worth it if you're keeping the phone for at least one more year. At the very least when I come to sell this it should have a bit more value.

If I went outside without my phone I would feel naked and I am not like many people that are on it all the time

Same here, I'm normally quite good with screen time. Sitting down for a coffee and my brain was "I just check the news"... "I wonder if anyone has posted anything on Facebook"... "that's a nice view, I'll take a photo".... all DENIED! 😂

Instead I had to just sit. there. and. drink. coffee....

Of course, you could have engaged in conversation, no doubt explaining your sense of loss ;) ;)
