The new iPhone SE is expected in April. You may want to wait for that. A battery replacement is also a good option, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money.

I've had a few SE's, and they have been fine, but:
It has always annoyed me that even though it has a larger case, the screen size is reduced considerably due to the massive top and bottom bezels. I've been very happy with the 13 Mini, and the expected size of a new SE puts it out of the running for me, even if it has a full screen. The lower cost of an SE is a non issue for me. The battery on my mini is starting to go, and my only hope is Apple won't screw up my phone during the replacement.

I currently have an iPhone 13 mini and love it dearly. Sad that Apple has chosen to discontinue it. With that said, the battery life on my mini is caput (80% battery health) and I am interested in the Apple Intelligence function in the new models, so am looking to upgrade. Factors going into selection:

- Apple Intelligence

- Size: the smaller the better

- Battery life: need something I can rely on without dying after a few hours without charging.

- Storage: 128GB to 256GB preferable. I have 2T storage via iCloud.

- Camera does not matter at all, I own a Fujifilm and take most all my photos on that.

With that said, I am thinking about paying $89 to replace the battery on my mini and get me through the next year before the iPhone 17 comes out. So I guess my question is, given the factors above, is:

Do I upgrade now from the 13 mini to the iPhone 16?

OR

Replace the battery on my 13 mini and wait for the iPhone 17?
Everyone alphas their own reasons for staying with the mini or upgrading. I see AI is important to you so there you go.

For me, I’m having some issues with staying not because of AI or battery (which isn’t good but it’s not a big deal) but the satellite feature. And I’m thinking about going to a google fold pixel 9, not an iPhone.

I off road and often are out of coverage and satellite might really save me. So yah… there I go right.

Why would ANYONE want Apple Intelligence is beyond me. Talk about killing whatever privacy you had left on your Apple device.

The Mini is the PERFECT phone. i just had my battery replaced.

Sigh... I am in the exact same situation, love my 13 mini but I need a battery replacement. I bought the 12 Mini and loved it, but battery life was awful, so I upgraded to 13 mini. It has been great, but the combination of 80% battery life and change of user behavior on my side made me decide now is as good a time as any to give up the Mini lifestyle, since I will have to anyway at some point. I don't think a new battery will do it for me. I ended up ordering a 16 Pro, to at least give me some extra nice stuff to help me overcome the size difference... I have been missing a telephoto lens, and I look forward to a better screen.

I'm expecting the regular 17 to be a minor upgrade over 16, so not waiting for that. I was considering waiting for the 17 Air, but given the rumours of higher price and limited features, I don't think it's worth it for me to endure a year with too low battery. Fingers' crossed that I end up liking it. It will be the first time since iPhone X that I'm actually on the latest top of the line phone, so there's that.

Question to large phone owners: I tried running the 13 Mini caseless, but I just felt I had to squeeze it all the time to not drop it, and it hurt my fingers. Would you say the larger models are easier to hold without a case?

For me, irregardless of phone, I would slap a case and screen protector on it.

I use my 14 Pro Max without a case most of the time. No giant hands, simply awareness.

If I had a mini and loved having it, I would run it until it was completely dead since we may or may not ever get a phone like that ever again.
I’m using 18.2.1 on my iPad Air M2, and I don’t see a compelling reason to upgrade to an Ai capable device yet. The roadmap isn’t persuasive either. Long live small!

Just back home from the Apple Store Centralworld, Bangkok.

Brand new battery in my 13 mini, back to 100%. Many more happy years of use for less than $100.

New flolab is going on…

as an iphone 13 mini user, the earliest replacement i can see is the iphone 18 flip
Well the upcoming iPhone 17 ‘Air’ could in fact be a flip phone so you may be able to upgrade sooner than later. If it is, i will also to replace my 15 Pro (i’ve got the 12 and 13 Minis also).

AI is a techbro scam that doesn't live up to the hype

Battery can be replaced pretty easily... there are guides out there to help you through it if you don't know how, and you can probably find services if you're not sure you can do it yourself

So that just leaves storage, and you seem to have that covered unless your current phone has small storage space and you really want to keep things local (which I strongly prefer)

After 2,5 years i got a new battery today for my 13 mini. Probably 2 more years from now on, no problems whatsoever. Best Formfactor with still decent power and camera with no successor.

Amen!

Did a Coconut Battery scan on my gizmos today, and after about 21.5 months, battery still above 90%. Probably will be able to go another year before gets close to 80% and Apple replaceable at this rate.

I have the iPhone 12 mini, battery still OK, and will keep it as long as I can. I'll probably get a "feature phone" when it finally dies (or, more likely, killed by Apple), I'm just not going to buy a big heavy phone and certainly not one with AI "Apple Idiocy". Jonny Ives, please return to Apple and knock some sense into them!

Those who got their battery replaced from Apple, did they do a battery health test to see if it’s is qualified for in store repair?

Yes.

They did a dagnostics remotely before i even went for the replacement - and again in person.
Even though my battery was 85%, i still wanted to get it changed now so went ahead and all was done while i toddled off for an early lunch and couple of beers. (There are reliable independent options for battery replacement, but for 3250baht for i’d expect 3 years of use, it didn’t seem worth any minor saving).

I gave my 12 mini to my son after switching to the 16. The design, form factor and build quality of the 12 mini never fails to wow me when I, on occasion, get hold it again - it feels so good in the hand! I really hope apple will make another mini in the future (not likely I know).
