Other iPhone 14 Pill Takes Up More Space Than The Notch??

The new pill cutout seemed so big on the leaked screens we saw.

I overlaid the "iPhone 14 Pro Max" screen over my iPhone 14 Pro Max screen and the pill seems to go even lower than the notch.

Does anyone know if this is true? If so, how is this better than the notch? It comes up more screen real estate and will definitely cut into videos when viewing them horizontally.

In Apple-defense force speak, "don't see it as taking up more screen RE. Instead, you get MORE screen to the left, right, between pill & hole, above and below." ;)

Pill & hole is essentially getting rid of the parts of the notch that were previously doing nothing, showing more screen previously blacked out. If someone doesn't like it, they are not forced to buy it... or they can grab what will probably be 50+ new apps designed to fake the notch by putting a virtual notch back in that space. Or 50+ others that fill in the space between pill & hole to make it one longer pill.

There was a rumor a few days ago suggesting there will be FOUR models: 2 with notch, 2 with pill & hole. If that turns out to be true, those wanting notch can still get a brand new iPhone with notch. Depending on reaction, it's the following year where "to notch or not to notch" may be a precarious proposition.

I think the slightly lower intrusion is completely mitigated by the fact that the pill and hole occupy significantly less space. When viewing landscape content, the pill/hole hides a lot less content compared to the notch.

It is form over function, that is nothing new. The iPhones are already inefficient because of how slowly it curves on the edges, less usable space. Just wish it was more practical

but in fairness the rumours also say the 14 pros are supposed to be taller than the 13 pro line.

Yeah but the New Notch Pill. Can disappear that’s the big thing. It’s gonna have an auto mode where it can appear when needed or not.

I don't think it will disappear.
  • Notice the black areas around the pill and hole in the photos that have leaked (or in the one a few posts above). That is likely part of the glass and "baked in", just like the black area for the notch.
  • This article/rumor squashed previous rumors of Apple using under-display tech.

Honestly with all this all screen talk and notches, hole punches etc.. makes me appreciate older designs like the galaxy S8.

Too and bottom bezels not too big and side bezels slim. Looks fine.

HOW IN H*&^ would we know if it's true when the next iphone is six months away??

Honestly, how do some of you manage to function in the world? If you stopped and thought for 10 seconds, you'd know it's impossible for anyone here to 'know if it's true'.

Are you not Accommodative to the fact that this is a tech forum where people come to discuss and debate around any relevant gadgets and software?

Immaterial of whether they become reality or not
 
The battery percentage indicator will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro pill-hole models.

Not when some asks "Does anyone know if this is true?" as if that's an answerable question about an unreleased product.

That's very different from saying "If this is the design they ship, what do you think..." but even that's problematic as no one really can form an opinion on how usable something is when they've never used it.
