What are you calling out there? It looks like that video is zoomed in a little bit. Is that the default view? The corners are cut off.
He's watching a MKBHD video and he makes his videos wider than 16:9 so that is normal, his videos on my 13PM also do that in the corners because of the wide video. That video isn't zoomed.

On my 13pro max those videos don't go into the notch but seems they will a little with the dynamic island since it's lower on the screen.

Maybe video apps needs to be updated to match the taller screen.. if not then this is a negative until we get underscreen Face ID.

Good call out. I pulled up the video on my regular sized 13 and it does go into the notch slightly. Will be interesting to see if anything is done about this considering nothing has been done for the regular sized phone yet.

I guess it just doesn't seem like a significant problem since it only occurs in special cases and even then... no big deal.

Majority of videos are still 16x9 anyway, so it’s not a big deal but annoying nonetheless when watching widescreen.

For me the problem isn’t that the pill is lower, it’s that because it’s not longer attached to the bezel, video playback draws your eye to it. Because it’s now a blob on the video rather than an odd shaped border. It’s a bit like when you see dust spots on video footage on tv. When the footage pans, you’re drawn to anything that is static on top of the movement. That being said, I am a fan of the dynamic island approach in general.

After playing with it some more, I think it's a YouTube / app dependent issue. If I play it through the browser, then the notch doesn't peek through (and the video also has square corners). I suspect if this was played through the browser on the 14 Pro/Pro Max, it'd do the same as well. My guess is that the YouTube app isn't accounting for the lower notch that's new on the 13, and obviously the the pill on the 14.

But do you normally see that on the video? In most cases it seems like the video plays within the safe area unless you manually force a zoom on the video. It looks like there are some special videos in non-standard aspect ratios that extend partially into that area but it looks like most videos will just be letterboxed.

It’s a good question. I’ve seen a few videos online with video content playing (and games being played) where the pill sits over the top. I presumed all video content, when viewed in landscape orientation, goes edge to edge.

It does not normally go edge to edge. There is a safe zone and 16:9 videos are fit top to bottom with letterbox on the sides. You can force them to zoom in to fill left to right but doing so crops the top and bottom. You can see this now if you have an iPhone with the notch.

Games generate their own UI and don’t use normal UI controls so they are fully responsible for matching the screen size of each device and they don’t always bother/get it right.

Perfect thanks, I must have seen footage with 2.39:1 content playing and not even twigged! Appreciate the response 👌
