Just wanted to confirm what the Halide devs mentioned on the minimum focusing distance for the wide. I still have my 13 PM so I’m able to directly compare it to my 14 PM with a very unscientific experiment.

I set up a ruler from one of my monitors and it looks like the 13 PM was able to focus sharply at just over 4” while the 14 PM needed around 2” more to get the same sharpness.

Getting another 14 Pro won’t change anything. It’s a physical change in the hardware and there’s nothing we can do about it.
Yeah but buying another would be a way to test. Not a big deal either way, from what I've gathered the 14 Pro just sucks at focusing up close (due to the design of the camera, nothing wrong with it).

This is NOT an issue if you use Macro lens. However, most apps do not take advantage of the Macro lens, like FaceTime, so you can't take advantage of it. Pretty lame.

Just picked up my wife’s new 14 P with no third-party apps installed. Same thing with the test, no difference when compared to my 14 PM and I used Halide and Instagram the first couple of days before this news broke.

This is actually a good suggestion that you can submit to Apple! Sometimes they listen.

I am Timm Kook and I can tell you we rarely listen.

But that's great news! So we should all be good. Cameras are not defective, just.... horrible close up focus which is "normal" for this lens. It is what it is I guess! But yeah FaceTime needs Macro. I'll have to let my lead software engineer know.
Even taking pics on what’s app. It doesn’t go to macro. I guess I never noticed it didn’t focus closer.

I’m guessing it’s the macro lens. It focus automatically. I think I don’t know what you’re talking about then.
Yeah you are talking about the Macro or the .5x lens, but for the main 48MP 1x camera, 6+ inches distance before it goes into focus

I don’t know but I tried to take some pictures today and they look washed out. Definitely a lot worse than the 13 Pro
