iPhone 14 Pro Max iPhone 14 Pro Max is here! First impressions and photos thread

my impressions after almost a week are this thing is a beast with battery life and consumption and stuff, I made the right call with Space Black and going from 6.1 12 pro to 6.7 and im keeping it ! (paid outright, unlocked)

in for the ride, at least for a year ;)

Seriously considering trading my 12 pro (I got with $800 off in carrier credits over 30 months for an iPhone 8, with six payments remaining) in for a $430 gift card and sitting on it for a future upgrade, but it also would make an excellent backup device should anything happen to 14PM or I sell it early and wait it out for iPhone 15, etc. as it gets closer... but its on iOS 15.1 and I want to see if a jailbreak EVER comes out even if this isn't my primary anymore.

I also have an se2 128gb I got for $250 at launch in early 2020 that is unlocked and can always serve as the backup that I aint ever giving up, since I didnt spend much and its helped in a pinch a handful of times (and served as a good in between XR as primary and 12 pro when that came out)

anyways enough rambling

Big of enough upgrade for you? I am going with the same route (if the shipping nightmare I am facing gets resolved) from a 12 pro to a 14 pro max. I figure the extra screen real estate alone will be worth it.

To me, it feels like a really good upgrade.

The size change helped a lot

120hz is butter too I now think my 12 pro is a little laggy even though it isnt at all

I rocked up at 8am this morning and picked up my iPhone 14 Pro Max deep purple at the Apple Store in Sydney Australia. There was a long queue and big crowd and I had to wait 20 mins in line and another 10 in store

First impressions:
  • the deep purple is sexy AF. It appears grey in some lighting but turns purple under indoors and under sunlight. It’s more purple than shown in photos and reviews
  • The stainless steel band and camera model shimmer under the light and you can definitely tell it’s purple
  • The phone feels the same weight in the hands as 13 PM
  • The screen / display looks warmer / more yellow than the 13 PM display
  • Pill cut out sits lower than the notch and is noticeable when you look at the screen / watch videos. Will take some getting used to
  • Dynamic island - WOW was my first reaction. Animation is smooth and the bouncy pill cut out when you interact with it is a nice touch. Lots of first party usage already and can’t wait for live scores, Uber tracking and other third party apps to make use of it. Face ID appearing in the island and other status and running apps showing in the island are very well executed
  • The ability to tap the top of the notch to go back to the top of the page requires a more precise tap directly above the camera when the island is occupied by an app eg Apple Music.
  • AOD - not as bright as the reviewers say. Do wish we could change the wallpaper for the AOD, brightness and other settings. Maybe we’ll get it in an iOS update.
I also have the space black for my partner and it is definitely a much darker shade of black than space grey and graphite. A blend between graphite and matte black from the iPhone 7 days. But not as black as that on the space black stainless steel apple watch.

So 14 days on do you think it's a worth upgrade from your 13 max?
I have a buyer for my 13 max waiting but just can't see the point yet unless I drop to a smaller pro, which HN have locally now. Still going to blow $600 if I got it.

Yes it’s worthy if you like the better camera. The dynamic island is a refreshing change from the notch but it’s not that much of a big deal after a week or so.
Battery life is the same as the 13 PM (maybe slightly worse if anything).
