I don't know about this, if they did they'd have to get rid of the 12 mini which they are still selling.

My understand was that the shells from the iPhone 5 line were numerous enough to warrant a refresh that gave birth to the SE.

Sort of like the technical equivalent of scraping the flesh from the skull of an animal, to make one extra sausage, to push up profits.

No, it's a myth that has been repeatedly shot down. The iPhone SE chassis is unique and made specifically for SE. There are physical differences in the rear housing between iPhone 5S and SE. The SE logic board is larger. The chassis mounting points for the camera are also different.

It also doesn't make sense from a practical standpoint either. You cut your losses, not continue stuffing expensive parts into phones that don't sell. Unused components for the logic board can go to other iPhone and iPad models.

As someone still hanging on with my SE1 collection, I agree with this.
I just want something as physically small and light as possible -- that is still an iPhone

I hope there is something coming that is an "SE Mini" basically
That's the phone I personally really want.
Smaller than the SE? I think the SE is small enough.

This isn't about shells being left behind. It's about what there is available and what sells.
Of course it isn't about left behind shells. Apple are experts at managing stocks.

I go back to what I said before - It has nothing to do with size, it has everything to do with price - Which is what sells WAY more.

Ok so what form factor do you think Apple will use for the next SE? Tim Cook said himself the SE line is for smaller iphone users, so the 3 options available are to continue using the current 4.7 screen, or move to the 5.8” Iphone X chassis or the 5.4” Mini chassis.
Next SE will obviously use the iPhone 11 body including LCD screen.

It baffles me that anyone would even question this. The XR/11 is the new iPhone 8.

Ask yourself “what is the cheapest and most cost-effective thing Apple could possibly do” and you’ll have your answer 9 times out of 10.

I wish we’d get the next SE in an iPhone mini form factor with OLED, but there’s no chance of that.

Apple has excellent supply chain management. There is no situation where Apple has "shells lying around."

The mini doesn't have the economies of scale for Apple to do a cost-reduced SE because nobody bought it in the first place.
Yes but if Apple offered a SE in the Mini chassis along side the current SE3, both at £429, are you honestly saying no one will buy it just because ‘no one’ brought it when it was full price at £679? Come on Jpack thats ridiculous.

People will buy it at that price of course. But there’s no chance of that happening because Apple needs a certain level of margin. Apple was able to deliver a $429 iPhone SE by using an old form factor that had gone through years of high volume sales. That hasn’t happened with iPhone 13 mini.

The mini is just a tad larger than the 5S/SE size, which is acceptable, I think that is what he means.
Yes if I had to pick one, I would definitely take the Mini size since I've read it's the same text size across the 13 line just with less rows visable. I can't do the SE. Wish they would ever get SE+.
