Apple needs to stop changing the camera hardware and just focus on software for a minute. I still just want an easier time taking normal photos of people indoors without grain or overexposure. I’d like to at least get to the same level of photo quality as my old Pixel 3XL. My iPhone 13 Pro Max is not there yet and based on what I’ve seen the 14 Pro hasn’t matched Google’s OLD pixels in still picture quality either. Hopefully by iPhone 16 Pro they get there. (Being entirely serious).

I'll go with this, but I'm still getting the 15 Pro Max Ultra.. I'm still using a 12 Pro

The difference is very noticeable between my Leica M11 and iPhone 14 pro and no matter what Apple do they cannot replace the key ingredient getting light into the camera.

They all have their uses though and the iPhone is the best 'always on you' camera, so good they keep doing the incremental upgrades, but I will stick to dedicated cameras on the whole for now.

I think if there is an iPhone Ultra, that this will contain a pair of lenses for the recording of stereoscopic video.

This would be needed in order to provide the stereo video that can be shown on the Apple Vision Pro.

If Apple don't upgrade the camera system then I don't know of any software fakery that could replicate the functionality that would also be of sufficient quality.

Nobody is talking about a huge AI announcement. Why do you think Apple has been tight lipped on the whole AI thing? The 16th is going to be another 2007 iPhone moment.

Grab your friends older iPhones, thee just get heavier- battery life doesn't seem to improve. Its like be charged $1200 every other year to get a slightly better point and shoot camera. And if you don't your battery will fail and other features that used to work won't work well. Its planned obsolescence at its pinnacle. Tim Cook has done nothing for Apple customers. He's one of the worst apple CEO. Even Scully was better as he created the newton which was the precursor to the iPad.

I think all these companys have forgottong what a Molbile Phone actually is, each year now its been all about the camera, at this point its just a Smart Camara with phone cabilities at this point.
And thats the case then its seriously behing in the camera market, escpailly at the price point.

I also hate the way they push new features in a world where most places they wont work correctly due to poor mobile infrostructure thats in place.
Great if you live in a city thats spent no expense with their 5G network. But in the real world its still lacking badly.

One thing we keep wanting more and more as time goes by...... Better Battery life, I think many would agree if they paused all research on other features for a year and threw all that into battery tech, we would greatly buy it, imaging a phone that actually lasts a few days.

So when you go hyking and get stuck.... wanting to use the SOS feature you know your battery on your phone is there to actually use this feature?

Just food for thought.

Abit like they put the feature in the watch to monitor your sleeping, but how many poeples apple watch can make it a day and be able to stay on to monitor your sleeping? or do you take it off to charge it over night becasue the battery sucks, just another feature on something that no one can use correctly unless under the most ideal situtations.
I agree, better battery life is high on my list too. However, current state of the art batteries cannot power these small computers (because that’s what they are) much longer than they currently do. Battery technology can barely keep up with the increased power consumption of modern tech. Apple is actually on the forefront with their chips and power consumption per compute cycle.

To be honest the iPhone has had a good enough camera for casual shots since the iPhone 7 at least. “Better” hasn’t meant “noticeably better” for a few years, as far as I’m concerned.
For casual shots you can use a Gameboy for all I care. For non-casual ‘shoot wish I had my Fujifilm with me’ photography the difference is anything but trivial.

I bought my 14PM last year specifically to get along as far as I could before shifting off Lightning. Too many Lightning cords to suddenly not need.

Anyway as most others have said the camera is the star is a big dud.
We have 4 iPads with lightning. I'm in no rush.

If the camera upgrades (=marketing bs) are the star, there’s no discernible change to the phone except maybe for the slightly rounded edges, compared to 12/13/14. I have the 11 Pro, I already got the rounded edges. Not sure I want to pay >$1600 to get another thing that’s almost identical*. I want to upgrade less and less. Perhaps the 16 Pro?

(*) Yes I know it does benchmarks at whatever speed. Not missing speed now. It’s like buying a car with 400mph top speed when my current one does 200mph top speed but I only drive at max 55mph. Just irrelevant. If anything, put in there a solid >2-day battery life without making it a brick, that’d be useful.

I thought USB-C is the star which even gains Android Fans. Now it’s the cam?

I’m excited for this iPhone and the camera upgrades, but honestly… some of the new camera settings make pictures so much worse.

idk if it’s Smart HDR or what, but my picture will look one way in the thumbnail in my photo album and then look very artificial when I open it up.

Night Mode also is annoying at times.

it’s great to have all of these camera options, but it seems to be getting a bit complex and the artificial intelligence isn’t always so intelligent.

There's really no substitute for quality big glass.

Is it weird if I tell you guys that what I look forward to the most of the Apple Event is to hear Greg Jozwiak say " Even with all the new amazing features the iPhone 15 pro/Pro Max will start at the same price as today." Lol

I don't want a better camera. It's too clear. It makes people look worse. Can we try innovating again?

I agree. Apple's "processing" just isn't as good as other's, namely Google's. I read that using burst mode and then picking the best picture leads to pics with less processing.

Can we finally get rid of the camera bump? Jony Ive was very talented, but unlike Steve Jobs, Tim Cook could not reign-in Ive's worst tendencies (such as the camera bump, notch, rounded display edges, etc.).
The camera bump and notch, are both thing that Ives would have gotten rid of if possible. He hated those things but, the tech is good enough yet to get a camera small enough into a phone as thin as an iPhone. And personally I like the rounded edges, it allows for much larger screen, and smaller bezels.

If Apple really wanted to blow our minds with cameras, they'd remove the zoom altogether, and switch the cameras to prime lenses. Prime lenses have no zoom functionality, and thus due to physics, removes all the compromises in quality that zoom introduces. One of the biggest advantages, amongst many, is a much lower f-stop, which greatly increases performance in low light conditions, and also allows greater background blur. On top of that is a much better image quality in general. Zoom with a prime lens can be achieved via your feet, via cropping, or via changing lenses (of which the iPhone has 2, and the iPhone Pro has 3)

Honestly, yawn. Last year I upgraded from a Xs to a 14 Pro (carrier trade-in), and I actually regretted it, and still do. I should have just replaced the battery and saved my money until the Xs was unsupported.
Why do you regret it? Xs to 14 Pro is a decent leap?
