I’d much rather have this as a native feature on the Mac.
This is a native feature on the mac. You can't customize it very well but you can optimize charging for battery health and your laptop will only charge to 80% if you leave it plugged in a lot.

Huh. And I want to charge to 100% every time. Battery life be damned. So perhaps this allows it. Because my Apple Watch Ultra doesn’t charge to 100% and it has happened a few times that I cannot charge daily. And it only lasts two full days if it charged to 100%. No thanks ML…

If your watch doesn't charge to 100%, something is wrong.

I think this is an iPhone 15 feature only (if it pans out to be true) because it requires changes to the actual charging hardware which is independent of the OS. iPhones (all of them) still charges and stops charging when the phone is powered off.

My watches have always charged to 100% as have many other people. Something is wrong with a setting or your watch if it doesn't normally charge to 100%.

I noticed if you wear your AW less, when you place it on the charger, it will auto limit to 80%. But if you wear it until the battery is like below 30%, then it wouldn't limit the charge and will just go to 100%. Basically it learns your patterns and predicts your next usage.

I found this out, cause I had a knee injury that keep me inactive for several months. Now that I'm all well again, I wear my AW longer and it doesn't limit the charge as much.

What is the battery capacity of your 14 Pro now? Curious to see if only ever charging to 80% makes a material difference to battery health.

I know this question wasn't directed at me but I'll provide a data point that PROVES that limiting the charge voltage increases the battery lifespan.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus I purchased in 2015 (8 years go). I've used it all day every day since. it still has its original battery and its battery health wavers between 93% and 96% still - after 2097 load cycles.
Today coconut battery says the battery health is at 96%, and iOS says 99% (99% obviously isn't possible).

How?
Ive kept the max charge mostly at 75% and minimum discharge above 40%.

Below is the general guidelines to follow for e-bike li-ion battery packs and li-ion batteries in general:

"You can do over 40,000 charge/discharge cycles when going from 30% to 70% only. Or over 35,000 charge/discharge cycles from 20% to 80%; 28,000 cycles from 10% to 90%; 15,000 cycles from 8% to 92%, 7,500 cylces from 6% to 94%, and the capacity reduction goes faster and faster, finally reaching 500 cycles when recharging from 0% to 100%."

"Based on code found in iOS 17 RC, which was released to developers on Tuesday, Apple has developed a new feature that will let users limit the maximum battery charge to better preserve its health. Once available, the option will be found in the Battery settings menu.

When the feature is turned off, users will see a message saying that the iPhone “will charge to its full capacity.” But when the feature is on, it will inform the user that the battery “will only charge to about X%.” The Settings app will also show when the iPhone was last recharged to the limit set by the user."

If this happens, I think it will be a big selling point in several ways. I like the idea much better than having to go the Shortcuts route.

I haven’t updated yet. Does anyone know if the ability to set a custom maximum charge limit was enabled via iOS 17 in the battery settings? 😃

Would be great if this was an option available for all phones, not just the 15 series.

I find it incredible that a battery feature like that will actually come out vs a cellular data daily/weekly/monthly limiter that would help parents and employers out.
