My wife’s 14pm had 9.5 hrs with aod on, surprisingly went to 13hr of sot after turning it off.
I had 12 mini, 13mini, 13.
13 mini was a huge improvement over the 12 mini. It easily added 1.5hr sot for me while being the same size.
13 added another 1.5hrs of sot over the 13 mini.

What i noticed is that new iphones are power hungry and battery consumption is not linear - meaning that if you scroll non-stop instagram or web, you can get 10 hrs on 15 pro, 9 hrs on 13, 8hrs on 13 mini, 14 hrs on 13PM, 13hr on 14PM, 13.2 hr on 15pm when new and fresh.

Now here comes the difference: if not used actively, then the inefficiency kicks in. For example if you are not glued to your phone and spend a day normally checking your phone, then battery drops quite significantly and spent on idle.

For latter scenario(sitting at work), you can get 6-7.5 hrs on 15 pro, 5-7.5 hrs on 13, 4.5-6 hrs on 13 mini, 9-10 hrs on 13PM, 9-9.5 hrs on 14PM, 9-10 hr on 15pm when new and fresh.

For AOD eligible device you can shave another 2 hours from above to get the real life SOT when turned on.

In conclusion, the pro max seems to suffer the least in our experience because of the sheer amount of Mah available and it drops the least or maybe drops the same, but it just has higher ceiling and can afford to lose that (14hr nonstop SOT vs 9-10hr of inactive use).
I wonder how optimizations fit into this…

My iPhone 13 Mini has fantastic idle battery drain (after heavy optimization)

I’d say it drops about 2% overnight (if not on the charger).

It drops a bit more during the day but no more than 4% - 5%

What did you? Do you still have this 15 Pro? I have same issues and same opinion like you. I am more and more convinced that some units are faulty.
I called Apple. They made few tests and said everything is fine. I asked about higher level of tests. They will collect logs but I have to update my soft to 17.4 first. Anyway what's worse my phone is unpredictable. After few fresh installations my phone could get 9-11h on WiFi. That means 5,5-6h on LTE. Ok fine. After 1-2 weeks without any update I get 5-6h on Wifi. Why? What is going on? That also means 2,5-3h on mobile data which consider as unusable

I have exact same issue and same results even on WiFi.

I also see these drops on my graph. Sometimes simple Safari task can take 3-4% just like that.
I also start feeling that some units might be better than others- the opinions are all over the place, with many people stating even that it's better than the 13 pro. I had the 13 pro and gave it to my girlfriend- now each and every day, she outruns me with her 87% battery, while I need to charge at 6 pm my 15 pro. It's really frustrating!

Do you have AOD on? Screen time on? Often on 5g but with bad reception (1-2 bars)?

Screen on time is a feature of ios which tracks screen time - if turned on then eats battery.

So I just bought a 15 Pro, coming from the 15. Overall I think iOS 17.4 has somewhat wreck the battery life on my 15 so I’m gonna monitor how the 15 Pro performs in the next few days. I know it’s not gonna be as good as the 15 but if I’m hitting 20% before 10pm then I’m returning the 5 Pro.

I'm happy with the battery life on my 15 Pro, it's nothing special but I can't complain. AOD off, 4G instead of 5G, manual brightness instead of auto (I like the screen a bit brighter than Apple sets it automatically, I only activate auto brightness while outside to get more nits) and I am using the 80% charging limit in battery settings.
Took the phone off the charger at 80% on Saturday at 10 a.m., now (Monday 8 a.m.) the phone is at 35%. My average SOT is 2 hours per day so that would come to about 4 hours of SOT during the weekend overall, having used a total of 45% battery.
The phone is new (10 battery cycles since activated) and has iOS 17.4 so I'm regularly installing updates and I use the phone as I normally would (no trying to avoid it to save battery or anything like that), since a lot of my browsing is on the iPad which is my main device while at home.

Not as good as my 15 but the battery life is very respectable.
