Ended the phone call and put it in the MagSafe from 49% to 74%. Normal amount of charging heat now. It cooled down from when the phone call was being made.

I did notice the heat to be coming from the middle back of the phone, under the camera lenses. After watching a tear down video, that’s where the top of the battery appears to be located. I didn’t feel like it was coming from the motherboard (right side of the phone when looking from the rear).

I just went out with my Pro and took some pics, then some 4k video and again a few pics, it got a bit warm but nothing hot, nowhere near un-holdable, kind of funny seems there is definitely some difference.

Also my battery life has been decent, I didn't use the phone too much today but, I show 4 hours of screen time (That seems high for today but I have been mucking around here and there on apps.) and was at 73%

That’s about 105F. I wouldn’t call that burning hot, but I wonder what background stuff is going on?
It went to 44 degrees yesterday picture attached and this when nothing is running in the backgroud
also, no way on earth anyone can use the phone at those levels its so hot!

Buying an iPhone since 2009 and seen everything so i know my statement is rock solid!

It's a wide spread issue as I mentioned earlier also fix it apple!

Sorry.

My phone gets extremely hot just browsing the web.

So far this seems to be known issue with TSMC.

Reports are all over the place on this overheating issue. My guess is Apple will respond within the week with an update to help mitigate this issue. Either a bug or perhaps needing to be slightly more conservative on thermal throttling.

Last charged to 94% at 8:13 pm and it’s now 2:21am. Did like 30 mins of instagram videos mixed with some Amazon browsing for monitors and cross checking that with some safari. Little bit of texting in between. No phone calls. Now sitting at 68%. Phone wasn’t hot at all during this time, left it off the MagSafe as well. I’ll make a phone call in the morning and see if I can get it hot. Tonight’s drain still seems a little excessive considering the activity.

Browsing and everything is good!
When you are on calls, the device gets really hot.

A software fix is needed asap; otherwise, I am going back to my iPhone 14 Pro Max!

They are smart, they wait for the benchmarks reviews and then they cut the performance gains in an update

I absolutely agree with you. As soon as I do a call. WhatsApp FaceTime or just phone via or not via WiFi Calling battery drain a lot and heat!!!

Guess there is a software bug… hardware would be not so good for us all

I also experienced the heat issue with iPhone 15 pro. I was adding people to my AirTags. I can’t remember my phone ever being this hot going back to 2007. I turned it off and it took a while to cool off. Fine since then.

It looks like anytime when the modem, GPS is being used. The phone heats up very quickly.

It charges at higher temperatures (33-35c) vs 27-30c as compared to 14 pro max

The other thing I noticed- it’s almost impossible to use the phone under the sun. While at ferry building in SF, leaving the phone under the sun (even on the back side). It become hot.

I am fully aware that under the sun with screen face up- phone will heat up fast due to black. So on iPhone 14 pro- if you turn the back facing sun the phone still maintain its cool. But the new iPhone 15 pro also get warmer with back facing the sun.

So far- not really impressed with the new 15 pro.

😂

In all seriousness though, I’m simply not experiencing these issues. I just activated a 15PM this morning and my account is absolutely loaded with photos, apps, and other data. It got slightly warm very briefly during setup, but it’s cool as a cucumber right now and there’s still 10+GB downloading in the background.

Just got off a 20 minute phone call via AirPods and my phone is still cool to the touch. So far so good today. Maybe all the hard reboots last night helped.

I don’t have my new 15PM yet, but with previous phones I have always set up as a new device and manually connect the things I want on the new phone — I have never had issues doing it this way. Maybe some apps are causing problems in the background too — that is why I manually add apps onto the new phone. I hold off on setting up Siri as well. Basically, I keep it as basic as possible and gradually add things.

I also had no heat problems during setup which I would describe as a little bit more intensive. When I experienced the heat issue, I was doing just about nothing. I was adding permissions for my family to my AirTags. The heat wasn't merely warm, it was super hot. If/when it happens to you, you'll know.

Edit: We have two phones since Friday and so far just once on one phone. So far, I won't return my phones over this.
Edit 2: Both phones have experienced the heat now.

I was on another 45 minute call without it being in MagSafe and it wasn’t hot. So far today it appears to be back to normal. Next phone call I’ll put it on MagSafe and see what happens.

Day Four and it goes crazy when I am on calls.

I had to remove the phone as my ears were on fire, and I had to use airPods!
