I agree with you as I feel the same way. It’s the main reason why only have the Spigen Ultra Hybrid T case right now and refuse to buy any cases with cutouts.
I felt the same way. I tried a lot of cases and ended up returning them all because it felt weird to hold. Ended up with a Pitaka Tactile Woven. But it’s very thin.

Got the spigen ultra hybrid T magfit. I hate it, feels cheap. Going back to my beats case.
I agree. The molding around the camera bump is sharp. Now, that is not something I would ordinarily touch very much, but as soon as I noticed it, I am drawn to it again and again. I also found it uncomfortable for my pinky. And the camera control button is too sensitive compared to Apple cases with the button cover.

So far I have tried a number of cases. Just returned the supcase unicorn beetle yesterday as the camera control button just didn’t work as well as the apple one. Going to stick with the OEM clear case until others jump on board with control buttons. Hoping speck adds them at some point. I messaged their customer service asking about it but have not heard back yet.

AFAIK, this is the complete list of cases with camera control that are either currently available or confirmed as being under development by the manufacturer:

Apple Clear
Beats
Bandwerk Metal (coming)
Bullstrap (coming)
Otterbox Lumen
Otterbox Symmetry Clear (coming)
Otterbox Defender Pro (coming)
Phone Rebel Gen 6 Aramid (coming)
Ryan London (coming)
Spigen Ultra Hybrid T
Spigen Tough Armor T
Supcase UB Mag
Supcase UB Grip

Please let us know what Speck has to say.

Wish the Apple Clear Case had better buttons.

I’ve been greatly enjoying the desert colored nomad rugged case I’ve been using on my pro these last few hours. I will say—and I imagine it’s the same with other cases with cutouts—using the cc button with your thumb while in portrait mode is a struggle.
Are you still using the Nomad?

Ryan London in black came in. My go to leather case. Smashes the competition IMO.

I’m kind of surprised, but I’ve grown to like the Spigen Tough Armor T quite a lot. Great fit, surprisingly comfortable for such a highly protective case, plus the magnets are no joke; the Spigen wallet feels welded to the back. It may also have my favorite version of the camera control; being just slightly recessed makes it easy to feel for the button without looking, yet it’s not so recessed as to look weird or make the case uncomfortable. For $21 with free shipping on eBay it’s an absolute steal as far as I’m concerned (the wallet is not included in that price of course).

Spigen UHT arrived. It’s a decent case especially for the $20 price but the glossy sides aren’t my cup of tea and now after getting used to the Benks everything feels bulky. Benks Armor Air still at the top of the throne for me.

here’s my current setup. a geometricgoods wallet and a vaja cases grip case. i went with the geometricgoods wallet because it works with any magsafe case or even a naked iphone, while the vaja wallet wrap only works with their cases. i mainly use the phone without the wallet but i like the extra protection when i place in my sling or backpack. the wallet is high quality, sized perfectly. this go around i went with the grip version. it adds a little extra when i’m using the phone and doubles as a pretty nice landscape stand. the vaja case is really nice as well. i like the openness of it while providing good protection. i love the color, camel, and how it came looking already aged a little. i saw today that it shows the magsafe ring, for those that are bothered by that.

I feel the same after switching to the Pitaka sunset case and the Thinborne, it just feels right. I can’t go back lol.

I actually didn’t know about the Thinborne. How do you like it? Do you have any photos?

I like the way the cutout is exact for the CC on it but not sure how it affects the usability.

It’s pricey though, even more than Pitaka. I’m set on the Benks but just curious on your input.

I got the Caudabe Sheath about 3.5 weeks ago, and I've been using that since. I definitely prefer the Nomad rugged over it, and it'll probably be my daily case, but I wanted to give the sheath a fair hearing before I exit the return window. I have to say that I love the feel of the Nomad Rugged in the hand. While it's slightly heavier than the sheath, it doesn't feel so --it feels outstanding in the hand, but it might be that I prefer holding cases with bigger lips. I also understand that I'm in the minority who thinks the sheath's texture is too rough and it's thinner lip makes it awkward to hold given the weight of the case, and I've pretty much been trying to convince myself to love it given the praise it gets everywhere.

Since I made that first post about the Nomad Rugged's CC hole, I certainly got more used to it, and it's not as bad as I initially stated (I just wish all the brands would do what apple did with the silicone cases). I tried and returned a Nomad sport case (preferring the rugged and the sheath over it) and it's cutout conformed to the same design, the only difference being that the rugged case has the bigger bumper so the indent is more pronounced.

Thanks for you detailed response..

I am buying my sister a 16 Pro and need to find her a case to go with it. She wants a case that offers good protection as she uses her phone in the gym with sweaty hands etc.. but most importantly she wants a case that feels good in the hands and is not slippery/does not hurt your pinky finger. She is even downsizing from a Pro Max to the Pro because the she finds the Pro Max too heavy to carry out and uncomfortable to use one handed.

Is the Rugged slippery? I live in the UK and the issue when buying cases from the US companies is that if you don't like the case, you can return it in most cases but the postage cost from the UK to USA is expensive so it often makes no point to send the case back, therefore you're stuck with the case even if you don't like it. That's why I am asking questions/doing research before purchasing cases!

At the end of the day it’s pros and cons. The really thin and minimalist cases mean less bulk but also less protection. The more substantial cases mean more bulk but also more protection. To me protection is more important for a £1400 phone even though I do have Apple Care.
