Yup, routers are way expensive and the benefit is questionable unless you’re still on a very old router. And, for home usage, what’s your internet download speed?

iPhone 16 Pro Models 'Widely Expected' to Support Wi-Fi 7

Most Android phones without the “pro” are already have WiFi 7 capabilities. Why is Apple only likely to give the “pro” that capability?

I have 2 gigabit available but subscribe to 300 on three Ereo 6 wired routers. Its plenty fast for what we do.

Yea, I’m using the Spectrum box and I think it is wifi 6, the only router in the house with 2 ATVs, 2 iPhones, 3 ipad, 1 Mac, 2AWs and I’m getting around 600-700 download, never been an issue…
Even funnier, I don‘t even see AC (WiFi 5) in my area. Only me. And these are all people with kids. All with modern phones.
We can get full Gbps internet service at our house but are getting by just fine with 500Mbps and a Wifi 6 router. But that’s for now. Often the technology creates the need. I imagine that in a few years if we don’t have at least WiFi 7 speeds and robustness we’ll be be operating with a hand tied behind our backs. One thought that comes to mind is the possibility that AI will require Wifi 7 or better if we’re to take full advantage of it off-device. But - for now - I don’t need AI and don’t need WiFi 7 or Gbps+ internet.
This article made Wi-Fi 7 sound like some sort of next generation technology that maybe Apple might consider for their most expensive phones, while it's been "widely used" by midrange phones nowadays.
It's possible, I guess, but I don't think that AI will have anything to do with it. I've had the same internet speed for almost 15 years now and I've yet to need anything faster, even with having added two teenagers to the house. None of us are gamers, or big tv/movie streamers; video and gaming take the majority of peoples bandwidth.
I do have a 24tb Synology in the basement, but I connect my laptop to gigabit ethernet when I need to move a lot of data to and from it.

Meh. How much data do you move off an iphone to your local network?
They're out there and can be purchased at Staples, as just one example. A Ubiquiti consumer level WiFi 7 (tri-band) AP is $189. An enterprise level Ubiquiti WiFi 7 AP is $279. I'll soon be upgrading my APs.
For sure iPhone 16 will support WiFi 7. Android phones do.

Just upgraded my router from 6 (not E) to 7 after using it for about 4yrs, so hopefully it will support WiFi 7. The Galaxy S24 Ultra does it so if the next iPhone doesn't support it then that's just going to be ridiculous.
And if anyone asks I upgraded my router to Wi-Fi 7, I needed at least 6E for my VR headset as 6 was causing some lagging issues which 6E has now fixed. Buying a new 6E router now would just be stupid as I tend to keep them for 3 to 5yrs before the next standard comes out if it doesn't die by then for some reason.

How does that make any sense? So instead of future proofing the device (by including WiFi 7) you want them to introduce an entirely new phone (which will probably be 2x the price with the apple tax) that most people will have 0 interest in? L O L
The 16 series sounds like a real dud. Maybe next year with the “ultra/slim” it will be a worthwhile upgrade but the 16 seems pretty meh compared to the 15 or even 14.
It's not just about speed at home. It's also about reliable connectivity in crowded environments with hundreds or thousands of devices. (Airports, concerts, sporting events, train stations, office buildings, etc.)
WiFi 6E is capable of all of this and then some. I don't see the point of 7 in an iPhone. 6E is already overkill, and I use that.
Does this even concern the average end user? I have no idea what wifi i even got. People usually just use whatever router comes with the internet plan here
802.11be Wifi 7 handles a lot more connections per router than 802.11ax in WiFi 6E mode. That's important given how many devices need WiFi access nowadays.
On tech blogs if Apple isn’t on the latest, greatest then they have failed miserably. In the real world WiFi 7 on a cellphone seems like gross overkill that most don’t need. Gotta keep up the negative narrative.
