This year is not one of the best years in the future since this year is the present. And not the future.

What's with the caps lock anyway.

Storage is not upgraded. The 128 GB iPhone 16 Pro was $999, and the 256 GB iPhone 16 Pro was $1099. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1099. The cheaper option has just been eliminated. (Either you argue that storage has been upgraded and that the price has increased, or you argue that nothing has been changed except that the base model has been dropped.)
This is actually still wrong.

When Apple drops the lower storage, the price for the bottom end model still stays the same. And often a new highest tier storage comes into play. The 17 Pro 256 as the lowest option should be the same price as the 16 Pro lowest option was, otherwise IT IS a price increase.

However, things like the Find My network network, AirDrop, the customizable Control Center, the Dynamic Island, AirPods Pro 2 (ease of use use and ANC compared to her OnePlus buds), the (almost) flawless integration between the phone, watch and Mac (she has a specced up 2019 MBP as a windows machine but started using macOS instead for numerous reasons) and Magsafe are all things she's greatly looking forward to.
I will add to this list, Face ID. I've owned a Galaxy S23/24/25 and I can tell you that their face unlock and under screen fingerprint unlock are terribly unreliable. Face ID works every single time.

The lack of a black or white model is very annoying to me. For a "professional" phone the colors match closer to pre-school watercolor paint colors lol. I have an iPhone 13 Pro and I would only upgrade if my phone broke over the course of next year.

They know their customers. Samsung users are *seemingly* constantly motivated by how their device compares to what Apple offers. I get it, iPhones are everywhere and can seem a bit 'in your face', so confronting that with superior specs and/or abilities is understandable.

And they both borrow ideas from each other. I honestly don't think Samsung is all that serious with this stuff, it's just marketing. Google is doing it too.
As a Samsung girlie since around 2012, I wholeheartedly agree with this. A Samsung will probably continue to be my main guy for the foreseeable future. I also have a Pixel 10 Pro. I'm thinking of taking a look at One Plus. I am definitely motivated by how my device compares to what others (not just Apple) are doing. That's why I'm giving iPhone 17 a look this year. Maybe I will find something better here, maybe not. But variety is the spice of life! I'm looking forward to finding out what Apple has to offer. I love seeing Sammy and Apple take jabs at each other. It's entertainment marketing!

The price didn’t increase for a 256 model. The 128 model has been discontinued.
That’s not the same as a price increase, it’s just a condensed lineup.

It’s a price increase. The iPhone 17 Pro is now $1,099. The iPhone 16 Pro started at $999.

Apple’s narrative that it didn’t increase is hogwash.

The same storage increase on the iPhone 17 base model added $0 to the sale price. So it’s clear the increase on the Pro had nothing to do with storage.

I think a lot of it just depends what you’re upgrading from. iPhone 14? It’s gonna feel great. It amazes me this year when i see people say “i have an iPhone 16 pro and will not be upgrading to the 17pro”. I’m like…you basically have a new phone? Why would you upgrade anyway? Of coarse you’re not gonna see a reason to update when you’re phone is basically the same damn thing

Honestly, I'm a little jealous. I had an iPhone 3G, then a bunch of android devices (and a Palm Pre), then back to iPhones with the 12 series. All of my immediate family and 99% of my closest friends have iPhones. It just doesn't make any sense for me to try android now. They have lots of cool devices though and I wish I could try them.

The basic iPhone 17 might just convince me, a lifelong midrange Android phone user, to make the switch.

I like that Sage color too. I like cool or neutral colors, don't like black or white.

17 Pro is an overkill and too chonky for my taste.

17 Air is just a first-gen prototype, expect dissastisfaction and trade-offs.

I'm interested in having comprehensive tests on all three iPhone variants: bend test, battery test, network performance test, thermal test.

P.S: With that vapor chamber, Apple should aggressively market the 17 Pro as a gaming phone. Sponsor a few high profile e-gaming competitions, don't let Chinese brand Android phones steal all the limelight in this. You're welcome. Thank me later.

I think it's already well known. It seems to me that plenty of mobile gamers are well aware of how good the experience is on iphone pro models and are also well aware of them including the vapor chamber in this year's phone.

Again. You are incorrect. Apple consistently keeps the entry level price the same on phones and computers from year to year per model. However, after several years the base RAM and Storage in a computer will go up as technology needs and standards dictate. A computer will come with 8GB of RAM and 256 storage when 4 and 128 was the previous standard. Phones have historically done the same thing. Apple will remove the base level from the lineup. But the base price will not change it will just have more storage. This is on a model by model basis as RAM and storage is NOT the same base level for a MacBook Air as might be on a Pro or a Mac Studio vs a Mac Mini and likewise on an iPhone Pro vs an SE.

Base models don’t get dropped. Base specs change. That’s what the poster is misunderstanding.

What’s up with all the hate?
Maybe not here, but social media is running its mouth.

I think this was one of the better years since the iPhone 13.

The regular iPhone is basically a Pro with upgraded storage at last years iPhone 16 price.

It has a
- „tripple“ 48MP camera system
- thin bezels with a slightly bigger screen
- ProMotion, finally
- an always on display
- 3000 nit max brightness (from 2000)
- new Ceramic Shield
- a new SoC as powerful as the M1
- considerably better battery life
- 18MP front camera with Center Stage and so on
- while being lighter than last years Pro and its available in more colors than the Pro was

AND CHEAPER
and the dual camera system looks better than the triple one IMO

If I was in the market for a new iPhone, this would be THE year.
Even the Pro is tempting.

What do you think about these years iPhones so far?
Reviews and first impressions are not really here yet, but judging by the keynote, is this year any good for you?

I’m calling it, this year will be considered one of the best in the future.
Together with the 13 and 11 years.
I'm on an SE 2022. Been clinging on to the home button but this new 17 is the first one I've strongly considered getting. I think this might be the year I take the plunge.

I loved the design of Iphone 16 base models more than pro models, so I love the 17 base model even more thanks to its slimmer bezels. I wish they kept the 6.1 size and just shrink the bezels like 15pro did but market is going forward with bigger screens. As I am in a very tight budget i won't be able to buy 17 brand new and wait for second hand prices but in the meantime my only concern with 17 base model is the low ram. I wasn't expecting them to put 12 ram as it would make the jump to pro models less attractive. I upgrade my phone every 4-5 year, so I am not sure if 8gb ram will be able to keep up with the new software and everything. Apple made Iphone 15 base model kind a irrelevant after a year thanks to 6gb ram. I wonder how long it will take that to happen to 17 base model too.

i guess the hate for 17 is only there in US and other countries where the price differences of regular and pro variants are minimal.( or may be the pro user are not so happy that regular phone is offering almost equal features compared to their pro phone :D ) .
In many other countries , 17 will be massive hit (given the prices differences between the regular and the pro variant ). The 120 HZ with 6.3' (Same as 16 pro) is a killer move made by Apple.

Looking at the key note, i guess apple is mainly targeting on emerging markets in Asia like middle east, India etc where iphone face lot of competition with Android. Pretty sure 17 going to be the biggest selling product among iPhones this year with huge margin and its going to attract lot of potential new users in those countries.

But if you are fan of PRO iphones , you will be surely be disappointed this time
I think its the other way around. Whoever bought the base models up until now either doesnt even know 60hz-120hz difference or doesnt care. So for them nothing has changed besides the selfie camera. On pro side they get a slightly different design, cooling chamber, extra 4gb ram, triple 48mp camera, better chipset, biggest battery apple has ever put in their phones. If i could afford i would definitely go with 17pro. That phone would last me at least 5 years without any issue. As i am broke now i will wait for base 17 second hand. Or maybe try my best to use my Iphone 12 7-8 more months and go for a second hand 17pro. Such a shame that base model came with only 8gb ram

And how is that not the same as "storage has been upgraded and ... the price has increased" which is quite literally what I (the poster) wrote. 🤦‍♂️

Besides, here is a comparison of the available storage options:

StorageiPhone 16 ProiPhone 17 Pro
128 GBx
256 GBxx
512 GBxx
1 TBxx

It sure looks to me like an option has been dropped. If it was a case of base spec changing, you'd expect the iPhone 17 Pro to have a 2 TB option, no? 🤷‍♂️

(You could of course argue that the Pro Max 2 TB option counts. I am just pointing out that there is room for varying viewpoints on the terminology to use.)

It doesn't make sense for them to have a production ready for an extra option. Cost would increase and very possibly they wouldn't be able to offer 128GB any cheaper than 256GB or retain this pricing, with that one extra configuration to account for. It made sense before but the prices of those parts likely changed now with 256GB nand becoming much more common and readily available.

For the most part, android is just so versatile. There's something for everyone. Samsung even has an entire suite of customization tools which is so fun to tinker with. Not knocking Apple, I know nothing about it, but there's something to be said for android's variety and customization abilities.

Agreed. My partner has a Flip 6 and it has some very neat Android features. I actually considered switching to Android because of her OnePlus 9 Pro she had.

I am absolutely not arguing that Apple should keep the 128 GB option.

I am not even arguing that Apple should have kept the base price for the 256 GB option.

I am simply pointing out that there are at least two different ways to look at it.
