Many of us in my country (north europe) have gotten messages by our phone carriers or tech stores there is a worldwide low supply of the new iphones and the ones here who have phones to send to customers have few phones only. They expect supply to build on during October.
Not to forget there seem to be almost no stock regarding Silver pros.

What is even the meaning of "pre-order" when Apple doesn't even have phones to be distributed at release day or release week?
Have they officially addressed the issues, the why and the when? They only care about building hype 🙄

If you ordered from Apple directly you wouldn't have had this issue. If they say you'll get it on X day, you'll get it.
Buying from a phone carrier isn't a great option if you can avoid it, they'll oversell to gain orders and sell contracts etc.

There's no delays for the rest of Europe/ The world. Those that pre-ordered quickly are getting their devices tomorrow.
There were even slots open for launch day collection from Apple stores until earlier when the store went offline until the morning.

What country are you in?

Thats not true, the carriers here are top notch, 2-3 of the carriers my family and friends have been customers of for 15 years counting. And many of us likes the subventions (couple of hundred dollars) we get on our phones. Buying directly from Apple is not the best choise or the good choise for most here.
 
"Pre-order" means you're ordering it before it's available at retail. It doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get it on release day, or any given day, it just means you're guaranteed to get one when it's available and the pre-orders preceding you have been fulfilled.

Plenty of people who pre-ordered their phones directly through Apple, 5 minutes after pre-orders opened, won't be getting them on release day, they'll be coming weeks later.

The pre-order helps companies to know what models/colors will be bought most. And shift the production in that direction.
This helps you as a customer to get it faster.
They have already many thousands of units in the shelfs long before the apple event. But every years the firsts weeks are tough.

Did you ever order a car? You wait easily half a year…

Pre order from Apple and you get a date that’s very accurate. If it’s latter than launch day it’s still their best guess. If they can get it to you sooner, they will and update the date. Don’t like the new estimate ? Cancel the order.
But the date could get longer too.
I had an iPhone 13 order where the whole pallet was pulled and held by customs for an open box inspection. I received it a week after launch day with customs tape on it.
Ordering from a carrier the date is less accurate where everyone is told launch day and excuses flow when it doesn’t happen.
One year a store in the states Best Buy, although there were others, only got a handful of phones on launch day. And never in the color, storage options, or quantity that the public demanded.

Nothing new here. If you order from Apple you get one. You order from anyone else, they want your business and will promise you anything to get it. "Oh sorry, but there's a worldwide shortage"

Yeah right.

Everyone has their priorities.

The thread starter has his panties in a bunch specifically over having to wait though, hence all the suggestions to order online from the one source that is most likely to ship the quickest.

I don’t need it at launch day, if I was that pressed I would buy from Apple or a tech store here. I can wait 1-2 weeks but as its now it will be one month wait. Seems Apple is bad at the distribution and or production game

Thats not how tech stores and carriers work here in my country. If they say there are shortages it means there are shortages

Yes I know all this and who is to blame for the bad planning regarding the distribution of the devices if not Apple? Yes oroblems with customs can happen but there is no reason for Apple to not be able to estimate and foresee how many devices there will be needed and have the devices shipped and ready for launch days. Unless they have production problems or bad planning. But I am no expert in the matter hence why I find the delays frustrating

The problem is Apple don't have enough payment options available to buy from them. You can't pay a lump sum up front and then spread the cost over a year and are fixed to their payment terms. I buy through a carrier or upgrade retailer because you can pay £550 upfront and then pay the rest off over the contract length. Apple sadly aren't competitive enough in this regard.

Of course you can. Just use a 0% purchase credit card. You can pay off as much up front or as little as you want and you can spread the rest over 2 months, 10 months or even 30 months lol 0% cards allow you to buy it anywhere and pay them off on your own terms. Buying from other stores than Apple is AWALYS a bad idea. Doesn't matter if you live in Norway, Japan or the US.
