iPhone 2G without Data-Jailbreak?

You could, but I would do a data block and fake APN (I don't really recommend boss prefs as it turned on sometimes for me when I was using T-Mobile). A two way protection is more worth it especially if it only takes a few minutes to call ATT and do so.

Use the old Razr V3xx as I believe LG Shine is a 3G phone (can somebody prove me wrong? I'm not 100% sure).

Well, won't they see the IMEI number from the iPhone and throw on the data plan? Or no?

Actually both are 3G phones. Is that a problem?
 
Alright, I just called em and blocked the data on that line. So just grab the iPhone, jailbreak/activate and then what is this fake APN thing? Just visit that website on the phone and boom? So it's basically data blocking from AT&T's site AND the phone's site? Thanks guys!
 
Hey, sorry, one quick question, I've never jailbreaked before, what program is best? I'm using an Intel Mac, I've seen quickpwn, redsn0w, etc. I need a jailbreak and unlock I guess. Thanks!
 
Hey guys, I just came across this thread. I'm trying to get an iPhone 2G up and running with PwnageTool on AT&T with phone but no data on 3.1. I tried all the tricks in the jailbreak, but was still getting data through.

I added my wife to a family plan yesterday. I have an iPhone 3GS. I had AT&T add her line on an old hoopty Go Phone. After reading this thread, I called AT&T and told them that I activated my wife on an old phone, and that we were going to experiment with several different used phones to find one that works for her. I said we were going to try Razr and some smart phones, but that I absolutely did not want any data on any of those. I asked for a data block, and she said data was required on all smart phones from AT&T. I clarified that I was definitely going to buy a phone from a friend and not from AT&T, and she said that in that case, a data block was no problem. She put it on the account and verified that no data could be transferred on that line.

I'm now going to re-jailbreak the iPhone again (had to restore it due to another issue) and cross my fingers that the data is dead. I'll do the other iPhone tricks, too, but she promised that there's no way for data to get to that phone number, no matter what phone I put the SIM in.

Thoughts? What should I expect?
